Has anybody taken the LPN program thru MSC or attended the information meeting? If so what did you think?

I did block 1 and 2 at MSC, and then 3 and 4 at Glendale. I thought MSC was OK. They seem to a have a high turnover in staff at MSC though. Nursing school is what you make of it. Both programs I attended seemed to have a high failure rate........but I guess that is normal.

So the program is three days a week from 8-1 and a 12 hour clinical either Friday, Saturday or Sunday?? How hard would you say it is? I have a three year old who will be four in February and a baby on the way due in November. How often does the program run?

I am not sure what their hours are now. They were trying to add a night program when I was in my last semester. You are going to have to wait a year to get into that program too probably. You will get a definite start date though! You can use that time to take all of your prereqs so that you can transfer into block 3 when you are done.

I would not say the program is easy. It will be easier for you than the other students who have no prereqs though!

Wow thanks for all your help so far! So what kind of pre reqs are there? I have already done Psyc101 and Eng101. Do you know how often the program runs? I think I am just going to have to go to the info meeting.

Go to the information center and check it out. Then get a catolog from Glendale or wherever you want to do block 3 and 4 and check out the prereqs for their nursing program. I am sure they have changed, but when I went they were:

Eng 101

Eng 102

Pych 101

Some sort of higher math

Nutrition (think that has changed)

Bio156, Bio201, Bio202, Bio205

A humanities class

Pathophysiology (think that has change)

A CNA course (think that has changed)

Medical Terminology and the HCC classes

Pass the NET test

And get an 850 on the HESI for LPN to get into block 3

The requirements for MSC were to pass their entrance test and that was it! The entrance test was pretty easy and I forget what it was even called.

See I had this whole thing wrong. I thought if I went to MCS I wouldn't have to take all the Biology and Chemistry. Now that I would still have to take all of those I really dont see the point in spending all the money to go to MCS.

Well, if you want to be an RN, you need the prereqs. If you want to be an LPN, then you don't. I did it that way because it was FASTER. I could take prereqs while waiting for an entrance to MSC and during block 1 and block 2.

I wouldn't recommend doing Bio201 or 202 during block 2.

Yeah that is where I am discouraged. I have to do Bio 181, Bio 201, Bio 205 and Bio 202. I still have to do Chemistry and Critical Reading. English 102 and Math 092 and HCC 130. I am frustrated because Biology classes alone are gonna take me 4 semesters.

Hey, did you know if you go this route it is a lot faster, they just started doing it at MCC, i don't know if they do it everywhere else. I believe if you do an EMT program, which is 1 year, you can enter the RN program at Block 3, and finish that in 1 year. We just started it this year and had a whole batch of EMTs join us, and I don't think we have lost any of them. They had to take Block 1,2, and Patho over the summer, so I'm sure it was crammed and tough, but they got done what we did in a year in one summer. That's the fastest way I can come up with to graduate an RN program without prereqs. I'd check into it with an advisor first though, just to be sure.

Thanx for the info! That is something to think about. How far are you into the nursing program are you and what do you think so far?

Do you really have to wait a year to get into LPN program at one of the skill centers? I was wondering, after you get your LPN at the skill center, how long you have to wait to get at the block 3 at Community College, and do you have to wait at all?
