Hi!
My school goes by the NET and GPA to get into the program. The NET test is worth 99 points, and prereq's (English Comp I, A&P, and Psychology) are worth a maximum of 44 points. The 44 points are calculated based on your grade. For example, if you get an A in English Comp you would multiply 4 points times the number of hours (3) to get 12 points. This brings the total number of points to 143. For my class, the cutoff was 118 but it varies each semester. My overall score was 134.
Microbiology, English Comp II, Human Growth & Dev., and various humanities classes are to be taken concurrently with the nursing program at our school. We are a two-year ADN program.
Have you already taken the NET? Did you know there's a book on studying for the NET? I bought the book and I think it really helped. I picked it up at the college bookstore. I was also able to take the test twice. The first time I scored an 85 and the second time a 90.

ksrnstudent,
Do you know if any F's or W's in other classes affected the overall score for entrance. My school just switched to the point system this year and when I first entered school 5+ years ago, I withdrew some classes to take them at a cheaper school. I also obtained a few F's because I did not offically withdraw from the classes. These were all non-nursing classes and not pre-req's of any sort such as Trig & Geology. I have taken all the pre-req's such as Human Growth and Development, Sociology, English I & II, A&PI and received A's in all. So what I'm wondering is if my previous F's and W's will affect my points even if I have A's in the pre-req's and get a great score on the NET test. Please let me know if you have any idea how this works.
Thanks

If they're in your background before all those A's it may not be as much to worry about as you might think. Many admissions officers take into consideration how long ago the less than satisfactory marks occurred. Also age, etc.
Hope you get in.
My school has two cut offs on the test scores.
If you get above the top cut off you are automatically in.
If you get below that score but above the lower cut off they take GPA and other factors into consideration. Scores below the low cutoff automatically are rejected.
They adjust the cutoffs each semester based on the scores of the people who took the test.

It does sound unusual. What AZ school is it?

And not GPA (other than passing all classes with at least a 2.0) or how many other classes you've completed? I'm starting to think my school is unusual. It's solely based on NET score (top 100 passing scores get into the program). The only classes that are required BEFORE entering the program are Bio, Chem (which is waived if you've already completed Micro), Algebra and CNA. And they accept college OR high school Bio and Chem. Our school is really designed to be a 2 year program, with A&P and Micro as recommended classes to take concurrently with the nursing classes.
Anyway, just wondering how unusual this is.
