Well, I am a LPN in CT and work in the ER. Which these jobs are hard to find and I love it. I do blood draws, start IV's, EKG's, and all the nursing things also. I also do splints. I was trained on the job. I had done blood draws and IVs in the past but it was a long time ago. Most LTC places won't let you do blood draws or IVs due to the policies of the facility. You will need to search for the right job but don't stop until you find it. Good luck, Nancy

Hi, I graduated in June from a vocational tech school in CT. The cost was 3100 now 3800 but beats 18,000 for neti. It was a great school and prepared me well. I have 2 jobs, I work at a nursing home 16 hrs a week and at a hospital in the ER in minor care 24 hours a week. I love what I do. I know it seems the wait is so long to get into school. Hi, I too live in Connecticut. I have been an LPN since June. I accepted a job at the nursing home I worked for 4 years as a CNA. I hate long term care. I went job hunting and every place I applied they offered me a job. I held out for the one I really wanted. I work in an ER in minor care in a hospital in Meriden. I love it. They aren't hiring right now but they might soon. This is a pilot program and they only hired 2 LPN's to work 3-11:30. I am not sure if they are going to hire for other shifts. Don't give up. There are other hospitals in the area that are doing the same and some hire in the clinics in the hospitals too. Good luck, Nancy

Hi. I live in Connecticut. I am a LPN but I work at a hospital in the ER. I work at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. It is 130 bed hospital, built in 1998. It is state of the art. I took the NET. I thas math and reading comprehension. The math has add, sub multiply, divide and algebra. The reading part is read a paragragh and answer a question. They have a study guide that is helpful. It isn't a real hard test. Good luck, Nancy

I just started to work in the ER in minor care. I needed IV, blood draw, and EKG certification. You need to find out if the ER hires LPN's first. I am a new LPN, I was a CNA for 4 years and a EMT for 15 years. You may have to search for what you want but it is well worth it. Good Luck, Nancy

I was hired at my current job the day after graduation but I worked there as a CNA. I applied to a lot of places and turned them down on the hopes of a hospital job in the ER. I filled out an application on Friday, they called Tuesday to set up the interview for the following Friday. Called me on tues and offered me the job and had a physical on the friday. I was all done with it all in 2 weeks and now start orientation. The coolest thing was they hired for 2 positions and a friend from school got the other one. Good luck and dont give up hope. Nancy

Well, here is my two cents. I have been at the same nursing home for 3 1/2 years as a CNA and 4 months as a LPN. I really want to work at this small hospital that has great benefits and a great place to work. They just started a new program with LPNs in the ER doing minor care. They only hired 2 people out of 50 applicants. I got the job and a friend from school was also hired. I start Nov 7th. It is up to you what type of job you want. I dont like LTC, I get too attached and i hate routine. Good luck to you on whatever you decide. Nancy

I am sure you did fine. I actually don't know anyone that has failed when it shut off at 85. Mine shut off at 90. I passed. Only 2 people in my class failed and they went to 205 but retook it and passed. It is a bummer to have to wait to find out by mail. We got to find out in 48 hours. Congrats early to you. Nancy LPN

congrats to you!!! I know the feeling I passed the NCLEX PN in July. What a great feeling. I too work in a LTC and worked there as a CNA for 4 years before becoming a nurse. I start a new job in 4 weeks in an ER at a great hospital. It is a pilot program and I was hired along with another classmate. Can't get much better then that, Nancy

I don't understand how your school can do this. You need 700 hours of clinical to be a LPN. Is your school accredited? I would make a complaint. Your class is going to be totally unprepared to be nurses. I wish you the best of luck. Nancy

I have worked for the same nursing home for 4 years. Most of it as a CNA. They hired me as a nurse when I graduated nursing school in June 2005. I put a lot of applications in for different jobs. They all offered me a position that I declined even though the pay was better, the places weren't as nice as where I am. Now for the good news. I was offered a LPN position at a hospital that I really want, and I accepted. The pay is a little better. It is in the ER in a minor care area. It is a pilot program never been done at this hospital. I am sure my EMT experiece helped me get the job. I am so excited to start. More good news, they hired 2 people and the other person is a LPN that I went to nursing school with. I am also staying per diem at my current job. Just had to share the good news. Nancy :balloons:

I am in Connecticut and a new grad. Starting out is 20-24 in LTC pool makes 28+ Not too bad I think. Nancy :)
