echraide, I am in the RN-BSN program. I still love it! I have yet to have ANY problems with the program!

Just to update the forum..yes you can double up classes =) It has been a great program!

What program are you in? Most of us are doing RN-BSN. I am in their distant online program and have not had any problems with the school, classes or advancing to the next semester with passing scores. I am not a very religious person and don't feel pressured into their class prayers or anything. I love how there is good communication with the instructors and advisers as well. For me it it has been a wonderful program. As far as losing students, the college I went to had a 100% NCLEX pass rate, we started with 60 students, even took some lpn's and paramedics during the 2nd year and still only graduated with 29...so things happen. Getting a job is all on your own, you usually have a foot in the door by doing clinicals there, but it is up to you to get that job, so I wouldn't say the college sucks because they don't just give you a job when you go through their program. I am sorry you are having so much difficulty but maybe you should talk to your adviser and find out why you are not advancing with a grade of 82.

I agree with the above post..I wouldn't do it for 4 months. Cost of living is higher is Canada than in MOST parts of the US. Plus you have to think about being taught HOW to take the NCLEX, which is a lot different from the CRNE. Not to mention you have to go through all of the paperwork with the BON because you will be considered an international educated nurse...if you want to work in the US it is just a lot easier to go to school in the US. But that's just the opinion of a US licensed nurse who just moved to Toronto :)

You will be fine with those =) I was doing the Chem, English2, and computers all together..that was hard!

Yes I took all 4 in one semester but I am not currently working. I would NOT suggest taking that many while working! Health and Wellness is an easy A. Chemistry is hard but doable if you study (or are good at chemistry =P) and Microcomputers has a lot of projects that you have to do, but it is fairly easy. The 7 week courses are fast paced while the Chemistry is slower since it is the whole 14 weeks.

I just finished up my first semester at FHCHS and I LOVE it!! I am doing the RN-BSN program. The communication with advisers, instructors, financial aid and etc is amazing! I took Chemistry, English II, Microcomputers, and Health and Wellness. I can't say enough positive stuff about the school so far =)

Can't help you with questions regarding Excelsior, but as a U.S. nurse with an Associate Degree I was turned down by the CNO to write the Canadian National Exam. I have applied at FHCHS to do their RN-BSN program.

Hi Renee8, Sorry to hear about the difficult times you are going through. A lot of community colleges offer online courses. I would suggest to retake your English either on campus or online but use the tutoring services that are usually offered. I am a strong writer but I still have difficulties with papers, so I submit them to an English tutor and they help me correct my problems. It's the only way for me to see my mistakes (plus you get a better grade). You will be writing a lot of papers in nursing school. As far as your GPA, you can retake the courses you made low grades in or you can bring it up by trying harder in the rest of your pre-reqs. I would also suggest taking Anatomy & Physiology on campus and by itself. It is a very hard course and you really need high grades in your sciences. Hope that helps some :) Angela

I was in you shoes not too long ago.... I was a new grad and went straight into ICU. I did not recieve good training to be in a unit like that. I did have a long orientation but was just given a stack of case studies and was told to complete before my orientation was done and was partnered with a nurse. When I came off orientation I was immediatley given 2 pts per shift and was expected to take the 1st admission...giving me 3 pts every time. I went to my manager and told her I was uncomfortable with those assignments but was just told that it would get better eventually, but staffing wasn't where it needed to be. She let me go up to CCU for a few weeks to try, but it was worse. By that time I had decided that I would rather transfer to med-surg and learn the basics before going back critical care...I was tired of being stressed out and having dreams that the alarms were going off on my patients...lol. So off to med-surg I went.....I ran my butt off on that floor. It is very stressful trying to learn to manage 8 patients when you've been used to 2 or 3. But you don't have the high acuity stress like critical care. You just have tons of paperwork, meds and pts. Everyone in ICU kept telling me to just hang in there and it normally takes 2 years to feel like you actually know what you are doing..it's just up to you to determine if you can hang in there until you start to feel less stressed. I have just moved out of state so I am currently not working and I really don't want to go back to a hospital. I am looking into a MD's office or a medspa...lol.
