Are Saunders questions similar to NCLEX?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hey everyone! I'm currently reviewing from the saunders book (the yellow one) and they seem much easier to me than the questions offered by Kaplan bank.

For the people who used the Saunders and passed NCLEX, did you feel it was similar to the NCLEX exam?

When you say Kaplan questions are on par with NCLEX-RN, are you guys talking about the Kaplan question on the NCLEX-RN Strategies, Practice, And Review book and CD-Rom?

Thanks for your replies.

I had the online q-bank/trainers. Don't know much about the book but I'm sure just as good.

I did the 265 question practice test in the back of the book and thought the questions were very helpful.

Saunders isn't even close to the actual NCLEX. Way easier. Kaplan and NCSBN are about on par with the type and style of questions you'll see on the actual exam. NCLEX-3500/4000/10000 isn't terrible. I'd say those questions are about in between.

Thanks for all your replies. Truly appreciate!

saunders i think is more on content, while kaplan is more on the integration process. I am currently reading PDA by Lacharity right now and it is highly recommended by my friends, well, as i am skimming on it, IT IS REALLY HELPFUL! because NCLEX is more on the prioritization and the PDA book is very into that, i should say in saunders book, focus on the area where you have weakness, i'm studying 2-3 hours a day since i have work. i will be schedulling mine on the 3rd week of july.

PS: content is very important, so if you know about the content of the question, even if it is a hard one, you can still answer it. saunders, although the questions are way easier than the actual nclex is still very helpful.

I totally agree with you regarding the importance of content. They don't cover everything in nursing school so I am filling them in by using Mary Hogan's Pearson's Review. I read a few stuff not on Sauders. I am also using PDA by LaCharity for prioritization. I will be borrowing Kaplans NCLEX Review from the library since I read questions are similar to the actual NCLEX!

I am using Saunders, Kaplan, and PDA right now and i feel so alive! been in school 3 years ago so my nerves are sleeping. saunders for content, with Kaplan for the client needs and PDA for prioritization and integration process. :woot: in terms on number of hours, i am only studying for 2-3 hours a day coz i am working, but still those books are VERY, VERY HELPFUL :)

Been away for many years as well due MVA -- rehab, PT, etc. so I was looking for a really good content material book. I was using Sauders before. Pretty straight forward. Just using Mary Hogan's as a supplement not covered on Sauders. I have PDA but not the latest one. Don't have the money to buy the 3rd edition.

Forgot to tell you, i'm also doing Hurst Review. Extremely helpful! More of a visual learner so this one is great.

You should be fine with your review hours. Our instructor said your brain can only absorbed so much in one day. I go to our public library and study for 3 hours.

yes, too much studying can cause brain damage, LOL, can't afford any review courses though, does Mary Hogan is very good in content? i will borrow one on the library perhaps.

The NCLEX 4000 software was the closest to the actual test format and appearance. I would "train" for the exam by forcing myself to answer select all that apply questions and do them for at least two hours at a stretch ( think of it as training for a marathon-what if the computer goes the entire length possible for the NCLEX- that would take stamina! So, I conditioned myself to sit there and answer questions for long periods of time) It worked. the computer shut off at 70 something right where everyone wants it to shut off!

One of the book explained the question format and a strategies for answering- I like that one too, but their questions seemed easy.

I like Hurst Review. Took the online program.

I used Saunders to prepare for my exam last year, and personally, the actual NCLEX exam was easier than the prep book! Truly. Other people I know said the same thing. My school also utilized ATI so I used that along with Saunders to study. I mainly used the CD-ROM from the Saunders book and the practice exams from ATI because I wanted to get the actual feel of the test. It worked for me. I passed with 75 questions.

Its similar. But in my opinion, so are most resources. This is why I go for the extras such as best rationales, best categories and organization, and best app since I like statistics about how I am doing. I think ianursing mentioned NCLEX Mastery in another post and I completely agree with her, its better than Saunders app
