there is a big old stink going on in my class about us having to wear our nursing cap when we graduate. personally i love the fact that we get caps and will proudly wear mine. other people are having an absolute fit that we have to wear them. i am however, opposed to wearing a dress. i hate dresses and never wear them, but we voted as a class on what we would wear and unfortuntley the dress won. so....i have to suck it up and wear the dress! our instructor was telling us that the state bon was actually considering bringing back the cap and making nurses wear them while working because nowadays it is to hard to distinquish who is a nurse and who isn't. some students in my class say that if that happened they would not work as a nurse! i have only seen 2 nurses in the all hospitals and ltc facilities that i have worked in that still wear the cap.

just wondering what your thoughts are about this subject and if you are required to wear your cap for graduation.:nurse:

i am with you on not liking dresses. i do however would not mind wearing one for graduation along with the cap. i would actually like that imho. wearing a dress for work is another subject and might oppose to it. the statement made by some of your classmates is a bit extreme and ridiculous (again in my opinion). i think there will be more important things to worry about when they become nurses.........patient to nurse rations, working conditions, etc come to mind. :)

If they say the cap is going to be used to distinguish nurses from other health care workers, will they now be requiring male nurses to wear them too? 'Cause in the "old days" only female nurses wore them. :nurse:

I look forward to wearing my cap at graduation. I've worked long and hard to have the privilege. It's the last vestige of nursing...the one thing that shouts "nurse" :p

Notice I didn't say I'd wear it working..:D

I havent seen a nurse wear a cap since..ummm the 80s? LOL. How about you?

Yeah, it seems kind of sexist or maybe I don't unserstand something. I am male; what if I were in your class? What would my graduation uniform be??

Yes and I'll be proud when they place that cap on my head. We don't wear them for clinicals for anything.

We got capped freshman year; junior year we received a stripe; senior year we receive 2 stripes and at graduation we get a cap with a solid stripe all the way around.

We also have chose a 3-piece suit to wear at graduation. It's very professional looking; skirt, jacket and sleeveless top underneath.

Can't wait--May '06

I'm sure they'd let you wear a cap, too :rotfl:

Seriously, males in my program simply wear a nice dressy white uniform...much like the females wear...just sans caps.

The class photos going waaaaay back all have the female graduates in caps except for one class several years ago that chose not to wear them. To be perfectly honest, THEY'RE the ones that look out of place.

But could I wear the dress?

Sure, I don't see why not.....IF that's what you already wear to classes and clinicals :lol2:

The males in our school just wear a plain white uniform. The only male we had in our class got kicked out (sucks, because he would have been an awsome nurse!). The class that is behind us has 7 male students and they will just wear an all white uniform. Of course if you insist they may just let you wear the dress!! Just make sure you post your picture so we can ALL see!! :rotfl:
