Are we all old???

Hi Everybody.

I'm new to this board, but it seems that there are a lot of older/returning students here.

Just out of curiousity, how old are you and where are you in life???

I'm 33 and a SAHM to two children: dd(3), and ds(1). I'm hoping to get into UF's accelerated BSN program next summer and somehow find time to balance it all....to be honest, it's a little intimidating to think about.

I am new this is my first posting. I am 45 just had a B-Day received the best gift...acceptance into UMDNJ Accelerated BSN. I work for the VA so I need a break...lol!

Personally age has no impact on my goals. My 2 sons are 12 and 7 the older is High Functional Autistic and extremely intelligent. My husband is supportive most of the times ;) and a wonderful chef! I recently graduated Suma Cum Laude in Healthcare Management...everything good is happening this year can't wait for next year!!

Old -We are never to old to pursue our dreams. I think that age (I'm 44) is what helps make us better students and our life lessons give us experience/compassion to deal with our future patients. I'm in a volunteer program right now at a hospital. Every three months we rotate to different areas right now I'm in L&D and its great! I find I'm not old, I'm seasoned with experiences that help me with the patients that I care for. Good Luck every one!!

Now that is what I am talking about;) I have to agree that I feel that this is the best time for everything that is occuring to me now academically. I am focused and working towards a plan that will allow me to work 3 days a week anywhere in the country.

How is L&D? Both of my pregnancies were High Risk and required absolute bedrest and cerrclages...not very glamarous but after 5 miscarriages Iwas willing to try anything.

Hi! I'm 22 turning 23 this month and I'm finishing up my pre-reqs for a ADN program and this accelerated BSN program. I'm getting ready to start applying for 2008. I already have a BA from another college so I guess I'm seeking my second degree. Is there anyone else like me?

L&D is great! Sometimes I'm actually able to be in the room during birth -just depends if I have everyones permission. I love L&D it is so fast paced and the nurses are A++. They really give great care and attention! I would have done the same as you and I'm glad that you had success. Kids are great until they hit the teens then sometimes you wish you could send them back -HA HA:lol2:

Hi, I just found the website so am new. I am 48 and started taking pre-reqs when I was 43. A class a semester...well long story short I enter the ADN program next month. It is an evening/wkend program and I will still be working my full time 40+ job as a clinical research coordinator. I am married and am the mom to a very rambunctious 4 year pembroke welsh corgi named Annie. I am stressed because I think I will be the oldest one in my class!

i just found this site today when i was googling stethoscopes! lol

i'm hoping to start the associate degree nursing program in january, i'm 32 yrs old and i have a 5 week old little man.

hubby has convinced me to go back to school while dalton is small, and we'll be able to better provide for him in the future.

i'm really glad that i found this site!

Im 30 with 4 kids ranging between 14 and 5. Ive been going back and forth to college since 99' for nursing and now im on my last year of prereqs!!! I changed from a 2 yr college to a 4 yr college in another state and basically had to start all over!! :uhoh3: but now im gonna finish and hopefully get accepted somewhere since i keep getting all these darn B's lol

I'm 33 and holding. :monkeydance: I'm still chugging away at my pre-req's and some co-req's. I had a co-worker on campus tell me that all of the old students always make good grades. My reply was, "of course we do sweetheart we don't have any time to lose."

You are right I'm 28 with two daugthers (1,3) and I have to do it for them as well as for myself. I have no time to waste. I have three classes ( A&P I and II, micro) before I can apply for the nursing program and I'm just trying to get through.

I finished my pre-reqs in May, applied in June and hope to start an ADN program in January 2008. I will be 42 in a few weeks. I am married to a wonder gal and have 2 adopted kids 9 and 6. I am the sole provider of income for the family so it will be hard, as the program is evenings/weekends, so that I can work full time during the day. I have a B.S. degree in Business and have been working in the IT field for 19 years, but ready for a change and nursing it is!

School is much different this time around. I would not say easier, just that I approach it differently than I did in my teens. So far I have all A's with my pre-reqs versus the Cs and Ds the first time around.

Life is a balance - you make time for what is important to you.

Age for me has only made it better the second time around.

Thanks to all that contribute to this board. It is a great source of information and encouragement.

I started my pre-req's last fall when I was 29. I am married and have two young sons, ages 2 and 4. I thought I was going to feel like a "fish out of water" going back to school at 29. I had gotten a previous college degree back when I was 21, so my view of "college" was a bunch of "kids" going to school - not "moms" who were almost out of their twenties! lol! Anyway, thankfully, I found out on the first day of class that I was certainly NOT alone! Most of the people I know at my nursing school ARE "non-traditional" students who have all types of situations, kids, etc. I actually have friends at my nursing school who range in age from 21 to mid-fifties. To tell you the truth, we all just feel like we're the "same age" as each other - just all in the same boat trying to balance our adult lives with our school lives, you know? I definitely do NOT think anyone is ever too old to go back to school. In fact, I enjoy school MORE now, and my grades are better than they were when I was younger in college. There's just no such thing as "too old" unless you WANT it to be.
