Are all nurses that wear white dorks?

i just wondered what your perspective on this trend is; i mean here it is that we have stirred away from this trend with diverse patterns and pastels. so, are you a dork? i count myself as one...just want to know that if someone's fluids ends up on me what particular color it is!!??? :trout:

I like how the all white looks, but I am not a laundry goddess and they are usually dingy after a few washings. I usually wear ceil blue or navy. Some of my jackets have small patterns.

An aside, a friend of mine at work no longer wears his black scrubs. It seems he wore a white tee shirt under them one night and scared the be'jesus out of a patient who thought he was a priest coming in the middle of the night in the dark room to give him last rites. The poor patient was terrified. He had a new terminal CA diagnosis. I feel bad for the poor patient, but we still kid "Fr. Bill" every once in awhile.

I know. We all feel bad laughing too, but we can't help it. Even the patient got a laugh out of it later when he calmed down.

Personally. I hate all white. I had to wear it w/ the cap to boot when i first started in nursing. I am guilty of wearing the cartoon scrubs which no one patient or other nurse has ever said (at least to my face) looks unprofessional. I'd hate to have to wear all white. I'd hate to see others forced to wear cartoon scubs they don't like. As long as you are clean and neat, then it is up to the wearer to wear what he/she deems appropriate w/ in reason. If the uniform is scrub attire, then whatever, clean , unwrinkled scrubs you choose are up to you, as long as it is not widely considered obscene, vulgar, or inappropriate. A co-worker wears black pants and a red and black top on occasion. It looks very nice. Nothing dirty or wrinkled, no matter what colour looks good, including some of the hospital issued stuff that looks like it is made of tissue paper.

I just asked my 23 y.o. son "Have you ever heard that dork is slang for member?". He said "Yeah, it means a whale's member".

In this case, I know a LOT of Dr Dork's!!

But seriously, the impression I get when I see a nurse wearing all white (no offense, I hope to those that do) is that this person isn't up tp date on current practice, you know, stuck in the 70's, or else they just want everyone to THINK she is a nurse when she isn't.

The dress code for nurses is all white, where I work. Its hard keeping them pure white, they get dingy and sometimes stained after awhile.

I always wear solid colors but I let my lab jackets express my personality. Personally I don't care to wear cartoon scrubs but I see nothing wrong with them. It just isn't my personality. I have heard a lot of patients coment favorably on the cartoon scrubs. I have never heard any patient or visitor be critical of them.

If you do wear white here is a hint...Wash them with just a little dish soap, the kind that cuts grease. Your uniforms will never get dingy. Don't use to much because you don't want all the suds in the washer.

this is so funny! i like white uniforms when i was a student, but now, i prefer black, blue, maroon flared pants with colored, paster tops..sometimes a scrub sweaters. i will never wear white because it makes me look fat(ter)! :chuckle:d

I never thought of my black scrub pants as "scary" or relating to death, autopsies. I have about 6 pairs of black scrub pants that are very nice material so they look really nice and pair them up with these tops:

I have quite a few of these mock-wrap tops with the black edging and they look really nice with the black scrub pants and my black Danskos. I also have a few Mad About Scrubs tops that are also mock-wrap tops with black edging that I pair with the pants. I don't think I would ever wear all black scrubs from head to toe just because I don't like that look, but we do have several RN's who do so.
