Are nurses hourly or salaried?

How are RN's paid? Is it hourly or salary?

Specializes in Geriatrics.

I get an hourly wage...however, I'm just a staff nurse. Usually, nurses in a supervisory position like managers and DON's get salaries...in LTC that is.

Blessings, Michelle

Specializes in Neonatal ICU (Cardiothoracic).

Could be either depending on where you work.

I am paid an hourly rate.

Specializes in dialysis (mostly) some L&D, Rehab/LTC.

Gawd! If all nurses were paid salary there would be more abuse than ever. Talk about never going home on time...talk about a major nursing shortage!:uhoh3:

Specializes in cardiac/critical care/ informatics.

Hourly for bedside nurses. Salary for management, and some other positions case management, informatics etc, again this depends on where.

Specializes in PICU.

There are some staff nurse jobs where you're salaried but you do get OT past your contracted hours. My first position was at the U. of Iowa Hosp and Clinics and I was salaried there.

Specializes in ICU.

I'm a UK staff nurse and am paid a salary, which is the usual practice in the NHS. If I do any extra shifts that is paid separately at an hourly rate.

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

i'm still at the bedside, and i'm salaried. i wouldn't choose to do it this way if i were choosing again, but hr really sold it when i applied for this job!

Specializes in Spinal Cord injuries, Emergency+EMS.

as scary mary says in the Uk the NHs pays a salry plus special duty payments plus either overtime or plain time ( + special duty payments) as an additional job

sopecial duty payments is the official name for unsocialable hours pay (aka shift differentials)

Specializes in Case management, UM, AL, psych, CD.

I have held misc. nursing positions in the past 13 years and all have been Salaried except when I was in a hospital setting as a staff RN. For the most part-- salaried has been fine but for a couple of my positions, If I were hourly, I would be RICH!!!

My salaried positions have been Assisted Living Director of Nursing, Mental Health oupatient and inpatient settings and Case Management positions.

I would probably rather be Hourly, as I would make more money that way!!! :)

Hope you find out what you were needing to find out.
