I would choose (a) safety for the second question. All are important, but according to Maslow, I believe safety would surpass the other needs in terms of priority.

always read the question carefully. the op is correct. the correct answer is c - document the results in the chart. the doctor ordered a test and you get the results back. the results are, in essence, normal. why would you increase the flow rate of oxygen? or elevate the hob? or instruct the patient to cough and deep breath? there is no other information there to support any of those nursing interventions.

according to maslow, physiological needs come first with oxygenation at the top of the list. comfort (which includes pain control) is also a physiological need. i'm not real sure on this one because many people interpret maslow's physiological needs a little differently. i keep hearing about many nursing instructors putting pain needs over a few other things. i, personally would say hemorrhage would be my first concern. that's why we keep checking the surgical dressing and watching the patient's vital signs for evidence of shock related to hemorrhage. so, i'm split on this. i want to say the answer is b - hemorrhage, but i'm a little worried that your instructors are going for d - pain control.

I agree with you, Daytonite...I'm inclined to go with B as well but think for some reason that the answer will end up being D.
yadis572002, it would be great if you could post the answer when you find out what it is!
Thanks for responding Jolie. Safety was also emy first option but when I asked one of the nursing tutors at school she said I was wrong. That is why I wanted to have a second opinion.
I appreciate it
Thanks for responding. My first option was safety but when I asked one of the nursing tutors at school she said that most important was pain management...Kinda tricky

I agree with you. But, on the second question SURGERY sticks out to me like a sore thumb-so, hemorrhage would be more appropriate an answer since it still is the realm of ABCs for the initial recovery period. The OP might be able to figure out whether the instructor is going for a pain control answer by the emphasis placed on it in lecture.

On an arterial gas, normal PO2 is 80-100 mmHg. This is a different value than the oxygen saturation.
