APU ELM Summer 2018

Published

Hi Everyone!

I don't see a thread for prospective students for Azusa Pacific University's ELM program for the Summer 2018 so I decided to start one.

I am Iliana and I submitted my completed application back in May. As the deadline approaches July 1st, I hope we can support each other and update one another as we move through the process of applying, interviewing, and getting admitted!

Sig_336 Thank you so much for your input! It really helped a lot when it came to preparing for my interview. I wish you the best of luck as well!

Does anyone know the general timeline for when we will potentially find out if we were accepted? Totally spaced and forgot to ask during the interview.

Hey Everyone!

I also applied to the summer 2018 term. I submitted all my transcripts and letters of recommendations early June and submitted my application a week before the deadline. I've had some struggles along the way - apparently one of the recommenders didn't submit the correct form which really delayed my application process. Also, one of my transcripts never arrived. I really don't know what happened. I confirmed that everything was submitted on time and correctly but unfortunately the school didn't informed me about these issues till after the deadline. Also, the school wasn't specific as to what exactly was wrong with my application. I literally kept calling and emailing everyday until finally I got an update in regards to what was wrong with my application. Finally, on July 20th, I got confirmation that my application was finally complete and submitted to the academic department. The program representative informed me that I could possibly still be accepted to the summer 2018 cohort despite the delay but if anything that my application would be placed on hold for the fall 2018 cohort. At this point, I'm just hoping I get accepted into the program. It would break my heart to get rejected.

Also, for those that graduated with their BA with a gpa lower than a 3.0, stay positive. Before applying I spoke to the program representative a year ago - the representative informed me that APU doesn't just look into your grades and that APU has more of a "holistic approach." I suppose that means that they care about the "whole person." My gpa wasn't at a 3.0 when I received my Bachelors, in order to improve my grades I decided to complete an AA degree with their online program which really boosted my gpa. Also, when you're being interviewed, mentioning that you're willing to go to any campus will increase your chances of getting accepted (I really don't know if that's even true) but the representative informed me that it would make you a more competitive candidate.

Anyway, I've been so stressed out with my application and now I'm just hoping the wait of knowing doesn't last forever. Best of luck to everyone!!

Btw, I wanted to ask you, how was the Org/biochem with lab course at APU? I can't find one and b in tired of hunting lol

I took Chemistry 115 - Chemistry for the health sciences. It's not an organic/biochem class but rather intro to chemistry. I confirmed that this class is acceptable for the grad program. It's a 8 week class and it's intense. This was the only class where I had a really hard time with. I'm not sure if its the same for every chemistry class but the professor - Every week he assigned readings from the book, 1 lab, lab quiz, discussion and review quiz. Its a lot of work but it's easy to get the full points. The lab quizzes and review quizzes aren't timed and you can take them as many times as you want therefore you can get full points. The lab quizzes and review quizzes questions do change every time you try a new attempt. There's also a midterm and final - they're about 100-150 questions and you only get one attempt but they aren't timed. I hope this helps!

That helps! Thank you. I might have to take it. I'll call APU and ask more about it. Can you PM me the name of your prof?

Hello Everyone! Anyone else has gotten a call for an interview? Any new updates?

Hi teambat, I just had my interview yesterday. I received the call last Tuesday on the 18th to schedule and interview.

There is a writing prompt before the interview. You would read an article and summarize the key points and give your opinion on it. Keep in mind that you have to finish it before your interview time, so show up at least 35 minutes early. Interview was short and casual, lasted approx. 25 minutes. The professor asks generic interview questions (at least 3-4) about yourself and why you want to attend APU, etc. They go over your transcript and see what classes left you need to take. They also ask you about volunteer experience.

Hi everyone, congratulations to those who have received a call back for an interview! I just got a call from APU today to schedule an interview for next week. :) Has anyone else heard from the main campus or IE?

@icmarr congrats on receiving a call for an interview! Good luck! What campus did you apply to?
