Hello!
I thought I'd get this thread started :)
I'm in the process of applying to APU and was wondering how everyone is doing with their applications.
Has anyone gone through the advising session yet?
Hey there,
Another ELM Fall'15 applicant, I am glad there is a thread for this . I sent in my application around the 31st, I am applying for the FNP specialty at the SD campus, I haven't heard back yet for an interview session. hmmm now I'm a little bit worried should I call?
Good Luck to you all, I hope we can be in the same cohort :-)
How did it go, xochrIstinaxo? I hope it went well. They didn't say anything about being chosen right away, but they said everyone should know by the middle of January because they'll start making decisions by mid-December. I believe there is a point system. I remember hearing that at an information session.
@SoCalCNA, I'm not sure how it went actually. It wasn't very formal as most of you had already mentioned. There was a writing prompt and I went upstairs for my interview. I did get really nervous as soon as my interview started so I don't feel I did very well in the beginning =\ , but I did warm up after she started talking. There was a point system. It mainly consisted of GPA, volunteer experience, the interview, and the writing prompt. She also mentioned mid January to me.
Something that confused me was that she mentioned we will find out by mid January, but we have to submit a deposit by 30 days. This leaves us with not being able to find out if we get accepted to the other schools. Do I understand that right?
@misslilposh: If I were you, I'd start calling by the end of November because I was told that the board will meet before mid-December to start making decisions...maybe they do still interview after that date, but if they don't, then I'd want to make sure I'm being taken into consideration before that date. Maybe they don't interview everyone (?), but I'd still like to make sure. However, maybe they are postponing the board meeting to allow for more time to interview everyone, which is why some are told we will only know by mid-January. The only way to find out is to call or email them!
@xochrlstinaxo: I am curious about their point system, but have no idea how they really do it. I get the idea they don't really tell applicants? I also didn't ask during the interview..Most schools publish their point system. Are you applying for any other programs? That deposit question is a really good question...I won't find out about other schools until late February I believe...
@Jessie van Wijk: They publish it? I'd like to see where I stand if that's the case. I am applying to other schools and don't understand how they are handing out decisions and expect answers 30 days after when other schools are barely conducting interviews in February. I'm still a little confused about that. Do any of you have any insight on this?

xochrlstinaxo- Sorry for the delay but this weekend has been very busy for me.
My interview was comfortable and I felt good about it afterward.
I agree with a lot of what Jessie van Wijk said. I arrived about 20 minutes before the appointment time and completed the writing sample. The receptionist gave it to me and had me sit in a separate little room. Once I was done, she walked me upstairs to the interviewer's office. It was very comfortable, nothing too formal, but she did ask me Why I want to be a nurse, How I heard about their program, and why I chose to attend my undergrad university. Most of the session we discussed the curriculum and she answered any questions I had (so be sure you have your questions/concerns ready) in a very nice way. There was no uncomfortable moments and no standard interview questions about strengths/weaknesses, "give me an example of a time when...." It was a very comfortable interview and I was out of there in just under an hour.
When do you have your interview? I think you will find it to be a good experience, too.
