APU ELM Fall 2015

Published

Hello!

I thought I'd get this thread started :)

I'm in the process of applying to APU and was wondering how everyone is doing with their applications.

Has anyone gone through the advising session yet?

Has anyone gone through the advising session yet? I'm curious to see what that's going to be like.

Does anyone know how the program is about changing specialties?

I'm wondering about changing specialities too, I really couldn't decided between PNP and FNP so I just picked one. I would imagine they'd let us change because it's hard to know what kind of nurse you really want to be before getting any nursing education.

I'm sure the program would allow changing specialties!

Does anyone need to still take the research methods pre-req? I'm having a hard time finding that course within the bay area colleges.

@alngo,

where in the bay area are you located? Berkeley City College and De Anza College has a psychology research methods. Below is the course description. I would check with APU to see if they will accept it. I hope this helps!

Also, which campus did you get accepted to?

PSYCH 28, 3 Units (Berkeley City College)

Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology

3 hours lecture (GR/PNP). Prerequisites: PSYCH 1A and MATH 13. Acceptable for credit: UC/CSU

Introduction to research methods for psychology: Research design; experimental procedures; descriptive methods; instrumentation; collection, analysis, and reporting of research data; review of research design and methodology in various sub-disciplines of psychology.

PSYC 15: Basic Statistics and Research Methods in Social and Behavioral Science, 4 units (De Anza College)

Course Description:

Elementary statistics including measures of central tendency, variability, probability, correlation, tests of significance, experimental and quasi-experimental designs.

Which campus did you apply to?

I have a list of classes that meet the requirement, some of them are actually online courses!

@seebella thank you very much! That is very helpful.

I'm accepted into the Main campus for APU ELM Fall 2015. I'm actually in San Francisco so any school that offers in North and South bay is good enough.

Which campus are you applying to?

Oh really? I would definitely prefer to take an online class since I work full-time. Did you have any suggested classes that APU would take that are online? Or if there is the list online did you have a link?

@Polo goalie: I completely agree. I was stuck between PNP and FNP, too. Which did you choose? I wonder if we have to decide our specialty now or if it's something we can decide as we progress through the RN portion.

@alngo

I actually applied for Summer 2015 and got accepted at the SD campus.

@seebella I know you haven't started yet, but how are you liking SD?

@JazzieP

I'm actually not in SD. I will be moving sometime in January. But I've visited the area (Mission Valley) a few times and I really like it. Which location are you applying to?
