Per the request of janina08 I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :)
MY MISTAKE! KAPLAN answer is 900. I just made a typo! The client undergoes PD. The physician orders 2 L to be instilled with a dwell time of 40 mins. The nurse measures the outflow and finds it to be 1800 ml. During the nurse's shift, the client drinks 700ml of fluid and voids 400 ml. What's the total intake of the patient?
(answer in KAPLAN = 900
but I can't seem to understand why. This is another confusing question from Kaplan. I also answered 500 but it's not the answer)
Could be:
2000ml-1800ml=200ml +700ml = 900ml...that simple. The 400ml is just probably a distraction because in the first place, the question is just asking for the patient's intake.

If the question is really just asking for the TOTAL intake, why not 2000 + 700 = 2700? Does it mean that 2000 ml PD fluid is not considered as total intake? and only the 200 ml must be included? Arrgghhh!!!! I can see your point but if given this same question during my NCLEX, I would answer 500 ml no doubt about it...and that's why I'm worried.

Just look at the rationale of the answer so you know what to do when you get the same question...the worse thing you could do is panic on getting a question like this. When you taking the test you always have to be in control:typing
Hmmm... I guess the 2000 ml PD fluid really should not counted as TOTAL intake since 1800 of that amount was removed during drain time. Only the remaining 200 will be considered as intake. But if I follow that premise, then the fluid intake of 700 should not be counted as intake too. Arrrghhh.
trimedu,
I just wanted to say congrats on passing the hardest part, and that is school. What I want to tell you though is that we have had several people come to talk to our class and as it turns out the statistics say that the longer you wait to take nclex after grad. the more you hurt your chances of passing because you forget so many of what you consider the little things that just might show up on the test. So just tell yourself you knew enough to pass nursing school, which the average person can not do and now it is time for you to schedule your tests for the next available date and just do it. Take your time with each question think it through and pass that darn thing. You can do it.
I know it is easier said than done but when I took nclex-pn I guess I just didn't know to be afraid because I wasn't stressed at all and passed without a problem, but now that I am older and realize I could fail nclex-rn I am terrified. Stupid isn't it? Anyway, Good Luck to You!!!!
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I thought I was crazy for not wanting to put it off. After hearing sad stories, I thought I needed to be afraid as well, and now its getting to me. But I feel I am ready. If I fail, then I will have to deal with it. But thank you again. I have been doing my Saunders CD like crazy. I hope I am not overstudying.:typing
