Hello all~
I'm working very hard to see if I can enter SWIC nursing program for Fall 2011. I would like to make of this thread a place where we can give each other support. Right now I'm taking a couple of classes ;Chemistry & Psychology until October and then I start Microbiology, Developmental Psychology, and Sociology until December plus the CNA course in November. I'm going bananas with all the credits and amount of work I'm dealing with. I'm committed to this but I have to confess I'm so scared I will not reach my goal and not have enough points in the end after all the effort. Thank God I can express myself here because I think no one around me understands what I'm going through to make it happen.
I just found out I did not make it. So, anyone with 15 won't make it. Grades won't matter, just points. I have a lot of thinking to do. I don't know if I should finish my Health Information Technology degree for which I have 5 classes and the clinical left, take the cna class and the SOCI class I need and apply for next year, or what.
For those of you who made it, please continue to share your journey here. I have notice there are always guests reading our thread.
Let's see what happens.
Irma
I'm sorry MyGenesis. If you take the soc class and do well will it give you an extra point? If so, I say take the soc class and the 6 week cna course and get that extra point. Maybe when you retake the test you will do better next year also. Or is there a class you didn't get an A in or even a B that may give you an extra point like Algebra or Anatomy which you can retake? Either way, with the CNA course it will bump you up to 16. Find out what the cut off is. It will probably be enough. Heck, if you are a CNA you could start working for a hospital and then they will help you with nursing school tuition when you get accepted next year. I would then take the remaining courses in the Spring to finish your 5 classes for your degree. That way you have both options covered.
I am curious too about the cut off. Please let us know when you find out. Good luck in the path you choose. I am sure you will be successful whichever road you follow.
Hi Ladies,I received my letter today. Let the journey begin....
Of course, as is my way, I'm already confused. The letter says that you apply for the background check and drug test online. The question is, do we send back the release forms for the bg and drug test in the letter with our acceptance form? The letter seemed strangely devoid of that answer........
I look forward to hearing about each and everyone's acceptance.
Best,
Kelly
After looking at the forms a little closer Kelly, I have decided the ones we sign and give to SWIC give them permission to release the results of the drug test and background check to the hospitals we will be working at, so I am just going to send them back with my acceptance letter. Does that seem right to you?
Well I just got my letter!! I got in!! Congratulations to everyone that got in!! I look forward to meeting you all soon.
Sorry you didn't get in, Irma. I wish you well in any endeavor you decide to choose.
Well, now on to reading those forms a little more thoroughly...

I'm in!!! I'm so excited to start this journey, but so nervous at the same time! I look forward to meeting you ladies this summer!
MyGenisis- I'm so sorry you didn't get in. I was in your shoes last year, but like I said if you really want it just take the SOC class and CNA. That should give you an extra boost. Also, if you didn't do so well in Anatomy and want to retake it, that will boost your points in 2 of the sections (A & D). That is what I retook last fall. Good luck with continuing on, you can do it!!

Thank you so much for the ideas, i think they are great! That SOCI I could not take the past Winter would have helped me have 16 points; I have all A's in the different sections of the application. I guess I have to take Soci for 16 points and the CNA for 17 points. I just hope the cut off does not continue to get higher. I can't wait to know what the number was for this year. If there is an alternate in the forum, please tell us how many points you had in the application.
I am sad, and cried but at the same time I am happy for all of you because it has been a long stressful wait.
Thank you Trace10!!!
