Applying to SWIC Fall 2011?

Published

Hello all~

I'm working very hard to see if I can enter SWIC nursing program for Fall 2011. I would like to make of this thread a place where we can give each other support. Right now I'm taking a couple of classes ;Chemistry & Psychology until October and then I start Microbiology, Developmental Psychology, and Sociology until December plus the CNA course in November. I'm going bananas with all the credits and amount of work I'm dealing with. I'm committed to this but I have to confess I'm so scared I will not reach my goal and not have enough points in the end after all the effort. Thank God I can express myself here because I think no one around me understands what I'm going through to make it happen.

I don't mind at all Maura! I do feel like I know more of what to expect b/c you get a lot of info, but I am still nervous/excited to actually start classes!!

So what is everyone planning to do with insurance and the physical? They say that it's about impossible to work a full time job while in school...so how are we supposed to pay 55$+ for monthly health insurance?

I hear ya. I'm going to have to take out a loan for the balance of school. It's always tough right in the beginning of a program too, since you have to factor in the physical, insurance, immunizations, uniforms...tada tada tada....:uhoh3:

That said, I'm sure thankful for being in a program that is at least affordable. :yeah:

I applied for scholarships earlier this year, but I have no idea when we hear about whether we've been awarded or not.

Hi Ladies,

I just returned from the orientation. For those who need immunizations (I have no records- UGH). I checked on the Walgreen's website and the cost for everything will exceed $800. Anyone have any ideas of somewhere else that might be cheaper? I'm going to check with the county health department next week and see if I can get some pricing from them.

Does anyone know who the lady was leading the orientation? In mine, on Thursday, either she didn't introduce herself, or I didn't hear her.

I was able to get my immunizations from my high school. Now I just have to worry about the rubella titer from my ob/gyn and I need to find my hep b info. The high school physical was too old for that info. Do they give titers for that? Or I wonder if it'll b just as okay to go to the health dept?

My husband lost his job so we are on medicaid, I wonder if that counts as insurance? Hopefully he'll be called back before we need the insurance and we'll be put back on...

Oh my gosh, where do you get health insurance for $55 a month. I was under a group plan and when the job was lost I have to pay $385/month for COBRA. How the heck do I get health insurance for $55 a month??????????? And as far as the immunizations, someone said it cost $800. If I do have insurance, are any of them covered under insurance???

Hi guys..I've just been accepted into St Charles Community College nursing program in Missouri. I work for United Healthcare. My insurance will not cover what they consider to be school physicals. My school has advised me that the health department will immunize you for a nominal fee. Also if you are in need if health insurance you should look into Golden Rule under united healthcare.

Thanks Ydbush! I did check with the Health Dept. and they were quite a bit cheaper than local clinics like Walgreens. They will do the Rubella and Varicella titers as well, if needed. I also noticed that Walgreens is having a "sale" on school physicals until 9/30. The cost is $35. I'm not sure if they include college, but it's worth a try.

For those who cannot find their records, do be sure to check with past schools. I was concerned that my I wouldn't be able to find mine, but lo and behold, my university still has the records after 16 years. I didn't have everything I needed, but having even the MMR was a definite savings!

KJN, which health dept did you call? I called the St Clair County dept and they don't do adult immunizations...

Hi. I called the Madison County HD. That's strange that St. Clair wouldn't do the immunizations.

I checked with Walgreens and they don't do anything that has blood work involved...Madison county does the titers? I not sure I could get that at St Charles county...hmmm

Did everyone do their background checks/drug tests already? I just paid for mine yesterday (always the procrastinator) and I still haven't received the email from the lab to do the test. I was hoping to get it today so I could have stopped by the lab, but nothing. Did it take a few days for everyone to get it? I obviously need it done no later than Tuesday and with the holiday weekend I am worried the lab won't get the email out in time!
