Applying to SWIC Fall 2011?

Published

Hello all~

I'm working very hard to see if I can enter SWIC nursing program for Fall 2011. I would like to make of this thread a place where we can give each other support. Right now I'm taking a couple of classes ;Chemistry & Psychology until October and then I start Microbiology, Developmental Psychology, and Sociology until December plus the CNA course in November. I'm going bananas with all the credits and amount of work I'm dealing with. I'm committed to this but I have to confess I'm so scared I will not reach my goal and not have enough points in the end after all the effort. Thank God I can express myself here because I think no one around me understands what I'm going through to make it happen.

Did everyone do their background checks/drug tests already? I just paid for mine yesterday (always the procrastinator) and I still haven't received the email from the lab to do the test. I was hoping to get it today so I could have stopped by the lab, but nothing. Did it take a few days for everyone to get it? I obviously need it done no later than Tuesday and with the holiday weekend I am worried the lab won't get the email out in time!

It took a couple of days to get the lab email. My drug test results were back before the background check was completed.

Margaret

Trace- I paid for mine today and am planning on getting the drug test done on Tuesday. I haven't gotten an e-mail yet though.

Hi Trace,

I think mine came within 24-48 hours, but I don't remember exactly when. The actual drug test is walk-in and only took about 10 minutes or so.

I finished my CPR, obtained insurance (applied anyway), am still waiting on a few immunization records, and still need to get shots and the physical. It is a lot to get done for certain...

Hey again all-

2nd year student here again able to clear some things up, I hope....

You have to pass 100 & 102 before able to enter 103/104.

You do have clinicals when you are in 103 one day a week.

Medicaid counts as insurance. I have Golden Rule insurance that I purchased for the program it costs me about $100 a month (it didn't cover any of my immunizations).

They "say" don't have a full time job during the program but I have two part time jobs and survived 1st year a-ok. It takes a lot of dedication but is doable.

Congrats again all, perhaps we will cross paths in the fall.

Thanks Kritterleigh. I also purchased insurance through United Healthcare and my major med. policy was around $70. The agent also let me know that part of the Affordable Care Act that passed legislation last year is free preventative and wellness services for anyone caring a policy on or after Sept. 23, 2010. Part of the services do include adult immunizations and are at no cost so long as you use a doctor in the network. You may want to check Healthcare.gov for more details.

Hi Ladies,

I know it is way early, but I was wondering if anyone ordered scrubs? I looked at the website, but thought I'd check with you gals first to see if anyone ordered yet and how the sizing was running.

Trace- did you ever get your e-mail? I'm still waiting and hoping it comes in the morning. I was reading over our paperwork and it says "you must order the background check and drug test by the date in the box to the right." that date is June 1, so I think as long as it's ordered by that date we should be fine. I plan on calling tomorrow just to check if I don't get the e-mail.

KJN, during the orientation, which to me explained nothing and helped in no way!, a couple of us went up to look at the uniforms and a girl or two tried them on. I think they were mediums and these girls seemed pretty small and they were still tight, so I would assume the uniforms run on the small side. I think I will stop by a uniform shop before hand though and see if they don't have those brands and just try them on to see what works for me. If anyone else has an opinion on the uniforms I would love to hear it!!

Thanks all!!

Tracy

jgarrit, hmmm, I posted a note but don't see it anywhere, sorry. I didn't receive the email by 10 this morning so I called the customer service number on the receipt from the background check. They put the order in again for me and I received my lab email in about 10 minutes. I posted the number a few minutes ago in case you didn't have it, but maybe that's why my post isn't showing. So, if you need the number, leave me a little note and we will figure out a different way to get it to you! I for one will get it done today, I don't want any dispute whether I had my test done by the June 1st deadline!!!! Like KJ said, there is a lot of stuff to do, too much stuff to still be done for me to still have to worry about this...

Is that all we need for the program is Major Medical???

Hi Trace,

I know we need the specific scrub top they recommended, but I believe Walmart also carries navy blue scrub bottoms. I wonder if we can substitute so long as they match sufficiently. I'll have to call and check with them. The website size charts seem to run pretty big from what I can tell. I wear a size 4, and they are listing me as XS which I would never have considered ordering. So, I may just order the top and buy some navy bottoms that I can actually try on. I think the mall at Fairview has a uniform shop? I've also checked other websites and found the same Nurse Mates shoes to be quite a bit cheaper elsewhere. There again, I don't want to take the chance of ordering any kind of white, leather shoes without trying them on.

As for the insurance, I asked specifically at the orientation about the policy and was told we just needed major medical. I hope that doesn't change! LOL But, I know what you mean about the orientation; I felt more confused after it then I did before it. I'm hoping the July orientation will be more beneficial.

Trace- I received my e-mail at 8 this morning and got my test done. Glad you got yours taken care of!
