Applying to SWIC Fall 2011?

U.S.A. Illinois

Hello all~

I'm working very hard to see if I can enter SWIC nursing program for Fall 2011. I would like to make of this thread a place where we can give each other support. Right now I'm taking a couple of classes ;Chemistry & Psychology until October and then I start Microbiology, Developmental Psychology, and Sociology until December plus the CNA course in November. I'm going bananas with all the credits and amount of work I'm dealing with. I'm committed to this but I have to confess I'm so scared I will not reach my goal and not have enough points in the end after all the effort. Thank God I can express myself here because I think no one around me understands what I'm going through to make it happen.

Okay, off for my drug test and to stop by my docs and show the nurse my immunizations needed to see if they can/will give them to me since my insurance won't pay for them at the health center. I sure hope we can work something out!!!!!!!

Hey jgarrit, I can see in my certified profile that 3 out of the 4 background checks are complete, while the last one is still in "progress," but it doesn't show anything about the drug test, and that includes even a confirmation that I got the test done. Have you heard anything back from the lab yet?

Does anyone know, does it take a couple of days for the lab to come back with the info and do they post it on the website and send you and email that it is complete or what?

Oops, nevermind to the last questions, the results are in and I am now cleared for take off...see everyone next week at school!!!!

I'm glad you got it taken care of Trace!

What day/time class are you ladies taking? I'll be in the Tuesday/Thursday 8am class. Just wondering if I'll see any of you ladies there.

Hi. I am also in the Tues/Thurs. class, so I will see you there!

Best,

Kelly

Tues/Thurs 8:30.

I haven't bought my book/books for the calculations class yet. How much did it cost?????

Trace- Does that class start at 8:30 am? Good thing for you saying that otherwise I would have been a 1/2 hour early. Lol. I got my books off eBay for a little cheaper. The one is $50 used, $67 new. The other book is $90 used, $118 new.

Do either of you ladies have a Facebook so we can connect before class?

I'm in the Mon/Wed class. I bought the Calculate with Confidence book on Amazon and it was approx 60 bucks. It was substantially cheaper than the bookstore, as most of the books are on Amazon. I bought the book to refresh my memory for our first day's test. I haven't bought the pharmacology book yet cause Financial Aid doesn't let you charge your books until the 1st day of classes. Looking at the book, it seems as if we're supposed to write in it, but I'm not sure if the bookstore will buy it back at all. I already had a book that I was looking forward to them buying back, but they didn't. :crying2:

Also, just an FYI, if any of you have Amazon.com accounts, you can sign up with Amazon Student for free two day shipping. All you need to provide is your SWIC student email address. The free shipping applies to most purchases on Amazon.

I wonder if anyone knows what it is like to take just one class WITHOUT having to spend a couple hundred dollars on lousy books?! It is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!! I am going to try to take anatomy with the last edition. What are your ladies' thoughts on that? Do you think it can be done or do you think I will eventually have to break down and buy the right book? It just irks me!! Hmmm...looking back at my recent posts, I may be in a bit of a mood today... :o....sorry girls!!!!!

Trace- I took anatomy without even using the book. The notes and CD (for the lab tests) were all I needed and I got a B. Marlen or Dyer are the best teachers for that class though, in my opinion.

Margaret- The other book is a book and a study guide. I believe we just write in the study guide, but from what I can see it looks like we use the Pharmacology book throughout the entire program. If you look at the books we need for fall it is in that list too, along with it being listed under the second year fall classes too.

If we use the book for over a year that makes me very happy. At least then I feel like I've gotten some use out of it. I took A&P 105 already jgarrit, I originally thought I was going to be an x ray tech, and I did glance through the book some during that semester, but I think with the past addition, good notes and definitely the lab CD I should be okay. While I certainly wouldn't be happy with a C, at least the pressure of MUST have and A to get accepted has subsided some. (probably just til class begins though :))

I wonder if we should start a new thread for the class of 2013 to gravitate to???? What do you think???
