If you want to be a nurse, you will be a nurse. It is sad that acceptance levels are so low. I know when I started applying for my nursing program...the acceptance was 70 out of 150 and was based on a point system weighing gpa, prereqs and the entrance exam. Guess what...I eventually got in and have one semester left before becomming a nurse. Be persistant and you will succeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You sound exactly like me 2 years ago!
Straight out of highschool, I knew I wanted to be a nurse... So.. I went to a community college, took the prereqs, and the entire time kept telling myself "What if I dont get accepted?"... There is a nearby bachelors program, but I wasnt interested. My heart was really set on getting accepted in the community college program. I definately put all my eggs into one basket, not something I usually do... But I had hope. Even though so many people applied, and only X amount were accepted.. I just always knew I would get in, because it felt like where I was meant to be...
And guess what? I just finished my first semester of the nursing program, and completely love it!
Dont give up!... If its meant to be, it will be. And even if you are not accepted in the community college program, at least you know you gave it all you could... And then you can move onto option B. GOOD LUCK!
don't give up! when there's a will there's a way, i truly believe that.
if you think that ratio is bad, here in the bay area all the nursing schools are severely impacted, for example some schools might accept around 50-65 students out of 1000's of applicants every semester!
keep trying, if this is what your calling is then don't let anything stop you.

Im a 25 year old male and live in Aiea Hawaii. If you do not know our nursing school situation let me tell you... You can either go baccalaureate or Associate. I chose associate because the community college (kapiolani community college) here offers it and its relatively low tuition compared to University of Hawaii's BSN program. I am extremely dedicated to getting into this program when I apply next fall to get in spring 2010...but I have this cloud of doubt hanging over my head
. I really want to be a nurse, thats not the problem...its the amazingly tough competition I have to deal with. I heard something like 250 students apply and only 30-45 get in. You have to have like a 3.8 gpa, and score 126 on the NLN to be considered. Does anyone have a ray of hope for me? Does anyone know any other options I have? It would be extremely hard for my girlfriend and I to just up and move unless we had some major help. I have thought of going to UH, but that means a lot more classes and more time. Any info?
