Applying at Maimonides Medical Center

Published

Hey all,

Been away for a while due to finishing nursing school and passing the NCLEX!

The excitement of graduating from nursing school and passing the NCLEX first time have almost completely worn off due to losing confidence in finding that first RN position. I graduated in May, passed NCLEX in mid-June and have been applying everywhere in NYC (hospitals, LTC facilities, urgent care centers, etc) and no luck. Granted I knew it would be difficult with an ADN but I am currently enrolled in a BSN program.

The best chances I have are at Lutheran Medical Center and Maimonides Medical Center - both in Brooklyn. I wanted to know if anyone else has applied to Maimonides and if it is usual for the Nurse Recruiter to send a postcard to your home address thanking you for applying. Crossing my fingers and hoping that was a clue they might be considering me.

Hi there! I applied to Maimonides back in March and received a postcard as well, but I never heard anything from them again. Hopefully, you'll hear from them. Good luck with the job search!

I think they send the postcard to everyone that sends a resume. I applied to them close to 2 yrs ago before I got my first hospital job (where I'm still at) and they sent me a postcard just like the one you describe. However I never heard back from them. I think they just file all the new grad resumes and forget about them. Ps u might have more luck posting anything about NY hospitals and job search in the NY forum as Maimonides is a NY hospital and You will get more responses than posting on a national forum where most people don't know about maimonides or NYC hospitals.

They are on a hiring freeze. I interviewed there bc someone I know is on the board.... they got me a interview and I met with the nurse recruiter and she started off the interview by saying WE ARE NOT HIRING. What a waste of my time!

Specializes in Med/Surg.

Hi NycRN92. Thanks for the information. I also received the post card as well. I'm sure it is a generic post card they send to everyone who applied for a position. Best of luck to all of us!

I recieved the same postcard 2 wks ago...last Friday, I saw they are hiring RN for Radiology/Oncology position. I think they don't want you to feel bad by telling you right away that there are no positions. At least they don't hurt your feelings, which is a right thing to do, so I will still appy even there's no opening currently, just keep trying, you never know.

Radiology/Oncology is most often a position where they hire experienced RNs only. I heard 100+ people apply to one job opening in NYC. NO harm in trying but the emails and postcards from facilities after applying are no guarantee of anything. Keep in mind that most places will not call you in for interview until at least 3 weeks after application deadline. If you are experienced nurse...you will get called sooner but as a new grad it may take months before u get called.

Wow thank you for the help^^
