applying to lone star colleges for fall 09

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I'm new to this site. I've been coming here browsing for a while, but I hadn't seen anyone posting yet if they were applying at any of the lone star colleges for fall 2009. I just took my HESI and unfortunately only got an 87.23 so that puts my scores at 11.1892 and I don't think I'll get in now. I'll apply at Montgomery as my first choice, then north harris, tomball, and cy-fair. If I don't get in I guess I'll have to try to either retake the Hesi next semester or retake my english 1301 that I got a B in... this is driving me crazy! I started working on the pre-req's over 5 years ago and stopped to have 3 kids now I'm back in the game and I was so disappointed today after my HESI. The competetiveness is just crazy that a B in one class and a B on one test can pretty much take me out of the running. I'm going to keep my hopes up, but I'd sure like to hear if anyone else is applying and what yall's scores are :wink2:

:yeah:

I just received my acceptance letter to CyFair! YEAH!

CreoleFromTheBoot - I read that you were looking for your letter from the same college, did you receive it yet? I hope so! I haven't read any other posts for CyFair yet.

HELP!! I wanted to start a new thread for North Harris 09/10 students (or anyone who wants to join the group), but I am not sure how to start it. Do I need to upgrade my membership in order to start a new thread..??

Tyshe,

If you scroll up to the top of the screen, you'll see the heading "Texas Nurses - applying to lone star colleges for fall 09"

Click on Texas Nurses, and it will take you to a new screen. Click on "Start a New Thread" (button). You do not need to upgrade your membership for it. I was able to do it to start a CyFair thread and I have the free membership.

:D

I was accepted to North Harris' nursing program, but will be going to a nursing school in Houston (closer to home) that I also got accepted into. Congrats to all who got accepted! Alternates - hang in there!!

I just got into the ADN program at North Harris....I've heard lots of different things about their nursing program, anyone already in it? Is it hard? how are the instructors?

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me what the application process is for LoneStar? I am currently a student at the Willowchase (tomball) location, and I have considered applying for the nursing program, but I wasn't sure if it's only once a year that you can apply. I am missing a few of the pre req classes so I won't be able to apply this summer, but I wanted to see if any of you knew if the application period during the summer is the only time you can apply? Thanks in advance.

I went to NTCC in Mt. Pleasant. We didn't have a test to take to get in. I had all of my RN prereqs done when applying for the LVN class. I was blessed and got in on the first try. They are an EXCELLENT school. 100% pass rate on NCLEX as far as I know. I know it was when I tested. Best teachers anyone could have.

Specializes in LTACH, LTC, SKILLED, REHAB.

I got in the RN Transition Program at Montgomery with a 11.34 score...

My ONLY choice!!! Any one else in this program?

Thanks djNyla..

I started the new thread for the "New "09" Fall Lone Star North Harris Students" to help us jump start our group. Everyone is welcome to leave comments, ask questions, give info and etc...

Hey Briacarr, I got into Tomball also! Not my first choice as I live an hour away but beggers cant be choosers. So are you taking prep for basic care or are you exempt? I did a health occupations program in high school but i dont actually have any proof other than my transcripts. i dont have a card or anything; i think i might have at one point but it is long gone by now. I was shocked as hell when i got my happiness letter. i think i may have started hyperventilating. anyhow, glad to talk to someone i will be spending the next two years with! congrats!

Congratulations on getting in Demm, everyone has their own opinion about north harris, and dont believe everything you hear until you have experienced it yourself. It's a great school and you will find out first hand which instructors will be good for you. It all depends on your learning style and such. Did they open the course list for your guys yet, so you can look at classes, teachers and locations? I know they usually delay this till right before school starts.

nope, they haven't opened anything up yet. I'm a little afraid but hope things will be better at North Harris than at cy-fair. I guess it wasn't the place for me.

Any one know anything about how the instructors are? it can't be harder than learning 45 lab skills in 8 weeks can it?

Hi jeneecw!

Are the majority or all of the clinicals at Montgomery located around that campus? Thanks!

i think u have a pretty good shot at both considering that montgomery is one of the smallest programs out there w/ only 30 spots and their cut off was 11.44 last year and north harris has 100 spots so obviously it should be a little lower i would think. and as someone else has said, it's not a bad thing to be an alternate either b/c pregnancies and other things in life happen all the time that cause applicants to not be able to accept their spots. i know north harris has been around a lot longer, but it all depends on what teachers you get. i wish that i had the points to get in at montgomery b/c i'd rather do clinicals at memorial hermann the woodlands. i have heard that you have absolutely no choice for clinicals at montgomery, but that there is some choices available at north harris but that could be rumor... good luck to you though!
