I applied for a scholarship, put my heart and soul into it, thought I had a very good chance since I met the criteria and was an excellent student, and was turned down. That really put me off from applying for other scholarships; I just couldn't go through that disappointment again. I know in retrospect that I was shooting myself in the foot and it won't stand me well when it comes to applying for jobs, but at the time I was just too dispirited.
I am sorry to hear you didn't get one. I was wondering if it was a nursing scholarship? I guess it does vary from state to state but I still think it's worth a shot. Think about it, you spend maybe 4 hours getting the information ready and if you get, let's say $1000, then that is $250/hr.
Also, make sure you have a English major or someone very good at writing papers look over your essay. One grammatical error is the difference between you and someone else getting it.

You sound just like my boyfriend. He always uses that logic. haha. I've applied for one, but most of the nursing scholarships I've seen that I qualify for as an Accelerated BSN student have strings attached - don't really want to commit to work at a hospital; just need the money now!!!
If you mean the Student Nurse Association, you can join even without being accepted to or started anursing school.
So far my entire education has been financied via scholarships. Keep in mind, the smaller the scholarship, the fewer the applicants and the greater your chances are of getting it. Not as many people bother for the $200 to $1000 scholarships and sometimes they are practically begging for someone to apply for it. The big ones are more like trying to win the lottery, but several small ones can easily add up to the same amount as the big ones.
Best of luck.

I just want to put it out there that not as many people apply for scholarships as you may think. 3 years ago I took the time and effort to do the reference letters, the statement of why I deserved the scholarship, etc. Well, I turned them in before the deadline and I got 5 scholarships! Turns out that all those other people who told me they were applying never got around to it and/or were too lazy. Don't be lazy! We're talking about thousands of dollars these people are giving away to help future nurses. Don't think you won't get one because you are not a minority or because you are not a single mom, because I saw every race, every income level and every age range accept scholarships. Just apply!
