I applied for the program and am anxiously/excitedly awaiting word on my admission. Anyone else here who applied for the program? (I was able to find another post like this but there haven't been any responses there, or any answers to my response from the OP.)
nurseaig, sorry, my other comment was written before i saw your explanation about your friend. congrats on getting in to downstate! i wish you well on your journey to being an np! that's great that you get to go for free. my dad worked at nyu which is how i went for free the first time. i'm per diem (take care of my kids the other days of the week) so no tuition reimbursement for me.
tinabeanrn, they said we will find out 3-6 weeks after completing our application, though the other post i found on here about the program said someone had told them we'd hear 2 weeks after the deadline - which would mean this thursday! so we'll see. i've heard the 2015 deadline thrown around, which is why i'm going to go full time to try to finish before then, but i've also heard that it's just a recommendation and won't really happen (just by reading various threads here). thanks for your support. are you still in school or are you an FNP now?
Yes, I am finishing up school now. I finished all my clinicals (YAY) and now I have a lil down time to come on this site and read about the boards...idk if I am trying to scare myself half to death or what , lol. You will find out that there are 2 different cert exams you can take once you graduate. AANP vs ANNC. I have been studying my butt off. The AANP exam is a clinical exam and the other one is an exam that has lots of theory, policy and psychosocial ques on it. So I am planning on taking the AANP as I cant stand the other test topics, :). IDK how it is in NY, but in Michigan our NP programs are getting really competitive now and lots of ppl are getting turned down. Its almost like trying to get into nursing school or something. Which blows my mind bc 3 years ago when I first got in, I was accepted to all three schools that I applied too and there wasn't an interviewing process. Now its really different. Ppl are going through crazy interviews and taking the GRE and everything. Let us know WHEN you get in! I have faith in you :)
I am wondering why people insist on paying innermost amount of money for a nursing degree when an expensive nursing degree will not give U and increase in salary or leg up on getting an interview. When I see nurses paying a $80,000-$100,000 FOR A BSN and the same or more for a MSN. I kind of wonder where is their common sense. People we are in a recession! And yes, NYU is not known for its nursing program like Hunter or Downstate. Think about it, coming out of nursing school with a loan for a house and U don't own one.
I will use my common sense that you doubt to proclaim that berating NYU students says nothing about us, but it says a lot about you. I am going to NYU because of the international reputation of the school..not to mention the fact that the GRE is not required, they place students clinically, etc. My experience has been fantastic and I highly encourage prospective students to consider NYU.
For those that go to more city/state schools, I applaud you as well. Many of the schools have excellent reputations, impressive clinical opportunities, and exceedingly high standards for admission and performance throughout the program, all while offering affordable degrees.
I wish the nursing community would embrace and encourage each other for our widespread interests and endeavors. Congratulations to all fellow ANP students and best of luck to those in the application process.
Thanks, mystory! Are you enrolled now or starting soon? What program? I got my BSN there in 1998 (before it was the College of Nursing!). I just called them today to ask when they'd be letting people know about admission to the FNP program and she estimated a month after the deadline... so two more weeks for me to wait and see....
Mystory if u want to turn this into a personal attack, bring it on. Who cares if u want to spend $100.000 for ur degree. Like I type in my earlier post that this was for my friend who was planning on going to NYU. And as for me, I was accepted to SUNY Downstate FNP program starting this fall. And if I was interested in going to NYU, I would be accepted there too. BSN from SUNY Downstate ( Magna Cum Laude). Put that in ur pipe and smoke it.
Esnoopy - Best of luck in your application process and keep us posted! I'm currently in the NYU accelerated nursing program and I will be graduating in December. I absolutely love it and I would recommend it to anyone. The College of Nursing has come a long way, the faculty is amazing, as well as the environment and the numerous possibilities of clinical experiences in the best hospitals around the city. I don't regret my choice and I'm actually looking to continue into their FNP program.
Every year we score in the top percentile for nclex pass rate and the majority of my clinical instructors are a pleasure to work with. Of course there are some flaws here and there, after all no school is perfect!
Let me know how the process goes and if you have any insights about the program.
Best,
Kika
kika, thank you so much for your support and inside info!
@nurseaig, you've said your comments were meant for your friend, and i've tried to back off and take the higher road. but the reality is, your comments didn't go to your friend's inbox, they came to mine, and in response to a post expressing my excitement about the program. pretty big downer and seemingly out of left field. i would hope next time a post hits a nerve for you, you would keep in mind who's on the receiving end of your comments. food for thought, seriously.

When will you find out if you get it or not? It should be a good experience. I personally have loved FNP school and I wish both you guys the best. Hey, In NY do you have to get your DNP by a certain time? Here (Mich) they are saying the dead line is going to be 2015....
