I applied for the program and am anxiously/excitedly awaiting word on my admission. Anyone else here who applied for the program? (I was able to find another post like this but there haven't been any responses there, or any answers to my response from the OP.)
nurseaig - honestly, the only reason you think Suny Downstate is more selective is because it's cheap and everyone wants to get in. Period. I actually have a few friends who graduated from undergrad at Suny D and 2 are currently in the WHNP and FNP program....and trust me, it's nothing stellar!
Enough with the bullying. As Esnooopy said - you keep talking about your friend, but the comments you make are on this board, therefore directed to everyone who reads it. If you really want your friend to hear you, speak to her/him directly. Stop with your condescending tone and try to be supportive of other's choices. We are happy for you that you got in, but that doesn't mean that everyone has to like the school you chose.
kika, thank you again for your support. as far as the question "do nyu have job placement? [sic]", i graduated NYU in 1998, received my license in june 1998 and was working in mount sinai in july 1998. for a more recent example, i have colleagues at work who were hired quickly after graduating NYU. one of them recently left mount sinai after being scooped up by the OR of NYUMC. not to mention there are lots of alumni events for networking. so i'm sure you'll be fine. :)
nurseaig, i have done a search of this board for nyu vs downstate and i am satisfied with my application choice. i'm glad you are too. obviously each school has advantages and disadvantages, and you have correctly named price as the big disadvantage of nyu. hopefully this will work in my favor and keep the number of applicants reasonably low since i have heard there are only 20 spots available for the FNP program there.
and yes, as a member of this board you have a right to post. but again, this is coming to my inbox and not the inbox of your friend. and frankly, this dialogue seems bizarrely negative and pointless and brings me nothing but agita. i still don't understand your motivation in posting to this thread in the first place or your continued negativity. i'd like to respectfully ask that we consider this argument finished. (if there was an emoticon of that little yellow face flashing a peace sign, i'd insert it here :)
Oh wow Esnooopy! I had no idea there were only 20 spots for the FNP program! They just started it this year and since they are offering undergrads the possibility of transitioning straight into a master program, they said the FNP can't do that because of the overwhelming demand.
I'm interested in WHNP simply because it's something I always loved, but now I'm getting nervous because a lot of people are choosing FNP over a more specific specialization. One of my faculty member suggested I choose what I like because with FNP I will end up with lots of geriatric patients. Nothing wrong with that, but I just prefer a more specific field. While another professor told me that the future is in FNP. I know you will make it into the program and that alone will feel like the biggest accomplishment!
Well I heard the 20 spots thing from another applicant, who heard it from them. But she also heard they'd let people know 2 weeks after the deadline and I called them and they estimated a month after. So who knows! I thought 20 sounded really low! Definitely messed w my confidence. I like WH too. Would consider adding that as specialty depending on how much of it is covered under FNP, yk? Thanks for your encouragement and I hope to see you around NYu!

NYU College of Nursing listed as "highly selective" and in the top 20 Nursing Programs here (with Columbia being the only NYC Nursing school listed as "most selective" and ranking #1)
