Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!
I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.
Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!!
Good luck to everyone who applied!
I got my acceptance letter on Friday.I don't want to seem as if I'm saying anything bad about the program, as everyone I talked to there has been super nice and accessible. I've been very pleased with them so far.
The comments I heard came from 2 Vancouver nurses who weren't very impressed with the technical/skill level of the graduates. They were saying that they felt the graduates from there were too focused on book learning.
But, I don't know how much stock to put into what they are saying.. you know. Maybe they were just being snobs? :) hence, I'm asking on here.
I also applied to Linfield for their bsn program. I read somewhere on another thread that Linfield students don't get a lot of clinical experience, and they focus more on community health. I'm not sure if these claims are true, but it is something to consider when deciding which school you want to go to.
I wouldn't rely on the internet to decide what school you're going to go to and spend a significant amount of money on.
Directly ask the school to talk to ex or current students. They can give you emails or forward your email to some students - past or present. This is normal protocol. When I was accepted to grad school, the secretary gave me the emails of the other grads and I talked to them directly about the program. You'd be surprised how honest people are when they are already in the program or have finished it. They have nothing to lose by being honest. And it's good policy for the school if they do connect you, because it shows they have nothing to hide, i.e. a poorly run program.
I just found a a post that stated that their pass rate of the nclex at Linfield is about 10% lower than community college programs in the pdx area. But again, ask the school itself. People can make stuff up or exaggerate for whatever reason.

I am also on the wait list and I am fairly certain that if you don't get offered a spot that you would have to re-apply the next year. But I have no idea how many people are usually offered spots from the wait list....it can't be too many though.

I don't think we are supposed to hear back from OHSU until the beginning of May, the wait is awful!!!!
DH and I applied to OHSU's Accelerated BSN program. Both rejected (received letters on 3/26). Bummer. Both had 4.0 GPA's in all pre-nursing prerequisites.
