Apple Watch

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Just curious, do any nurses or CNAs have the Apple Watch or are thinking about getting it? Would your employer allow it?

Oh I have to add. I bought a water RESISTANT watch from Walmart, washed my hands then the watch died. So I learned my lesson. From then on I would buy water PROOF!

I have a waterproof watch and this isn't a watch from Walmart, Apple is more than reputable enough to trust. It's on them if it breaks while washing my hands.

I saw an 11/12 year old proudly playing & showing off his new watch. My 12 yo son longingly looked at me and I just shook my head and mouthed I don't think so.

With my pediatrics population I don't think it would be a grand idea especially since one managed to hit a button and set my time to who knows where!

Ha, yeah I can definitely see that. "Do you have any games on your watch?" I'm a night CNA in a LTC facility so thankfully I won't have those problems!

Well it was water resistant & should've withstood me just washing my hands. It wasn't Walmart brand, I don't remember the brand as it was 5 years ago but it's still on the company since it was water resistant & didn't stand up to the claim.

I want the apple sport watch because consumer reports says the heart rate tracker is extremely accurate !

For the price tho, I'd hope I could wear it to work/clinicals!

Luckily for me today, the only bodily secretion that grazed the skin on my wrist was a booger. I have not been so fortunate on precious shifts.

Pretty sure I would end up destroying an Apple Watch with the excessive amounts of rubbing alcohol I would need to use to sanitize it.

Same :) I know expensive doesn't always mean durable but I've had the best experiences with Apple so I 100% trust it. The only problem I foresee is what Purple_roses says about sanitizing.

Full disclosure here: I have a smart watch, just not the Apple watch. I don't use an iPhone anyway so the Apple watch would essentially be useless for me. I do have to say it looks nice but...the reported battery life is a concern for me as is the very high [in my opinion] cost. I rarely take my watch off and I only need to charge mine maybe twice a week. Mine does what i want it to which is put notifications right on my wrist. I can look at my watch to see who's calling and decide if I want to take my phone out to answer the call. I can also read and respond to texts. The fitness app is pretty much a glorified step counter and sleep monitor. No heart rate monitor, but that's not a feature I was concerned with anyway. Some of the apps are pretty cool, I like that I can control Pandora radio right from my watch.

Since I don't use an iPhone I will probably never get an Apple watch unless Apple someday decides to make it compatible with Android phones and I have yet to see anyone I know wearing one. Let us know how you like it and if you think it was worth the price.

So you regularly wash your hands and have had no problem with your smart watch? How do you sanitize it? Oh and in regards to pandora radio, do you use wireless headphones or a Bluetooth? Thanks for your response!

I'll definitely get back to everyone with my experience :p

Im a watch guy. Im also a tech guy. But I simply do not see the point of this watch. It is in its infancy and will be neat down the road, but if you are looking to drop 350+ on a watch, there are several much better options.

Plus at work why have a nice watch? $5 walmart specials work well.

The watch was a gift to myself. I've been working so hard .-. I practically live at work so I'd like to use it at work.

Sorry but I don't think I mentioned the watch I have. It's a Pebble Steel model, picked it up Black Friday last year for a really good price. To answer your questions:

I wash my hands and even shower with it on no problem. It's water resistant to 5 atm which means bathing/showering are ok. I wouldn't suggest diving with it on but submerging it while taking a bath hasn't been a problem.

I use alcohol wipes on it all the time, no fogging or scratching yet. I believe the screen is gorilla glass and it is tough. I've banged it against stuff several times and no scratches.

For music control [it'll work with other music players too, not just Pandora though Pandora does have a dedicated app for the watch] I can listen to it though wireless headphones, an external Bluetooth speaker or just through the phones speakers. I often leave music playing through my phones internal speaker at work.

The watch itself connects to my phone via Bluetooth and has a very impressive range. I leave my phone charging on my desk and never lose connection anywhere in my house.

And yes please do update us on the Apple Watch, especially the battery life issues I've heard about. The color display looks awesome, but I'm pretty sure my good old black and white display is why the Pebble has such great battery life.

No. I don't follow hype and fads, for the most part. They might as well get it over with and just put the chip in your brain, already. It's coming.
