Just curious, do any nurses or CNAs have the Apple Watch or are thinking about getting it? Would your employer allow it?

Just saw one of our docs demonstrate it today. It looks cool. He answered a call on it, but everyone could hear the conversation. Then he switched the call over to his cell for privacy which is not allowed at my workplace since we were at the nursing station. He showed us the apps; can't surf the web or play games on work time. He showed us the heart rate monitor & clock too.
In the end, all I kept thinking is that's a really expensive watch that I'll mess up at work with all the hand washing, patient care clean ups, and banging it into stuff. Is it waterproof? A neat idea but I can't see myself spending that much money on a work watch I'm gonna thrash!

Why would you spend that much money on a watch for work? There can't be any way it's water proof.

It's water resistant so you can wash your hands. The sports model (lower end) is scratch resistant but the more expensive models are stronger. I ordered the sports and I think it'll be okay at work since I don't give baths or anything on night shift. I'm worried about it scratching though, lol. It'll be sort of an experiment. If it doesn't work out I'll switch back to my Baby G haha
I'm not getting mine specifically for work, but I'd like to wear it at work. And it's not waterproof, but it's water resistant. I don't plan on submerging my hands in water.
Let us know how it works out.

That's a lot of money for a watch! Just saying.
I would rather get a watch that is water proof than water resistant & know that whatever I am going to put it through it can handle it.

I saw an 11/12 year old proudly playing & showing off his new watch. My 12 yo son longingly looked at me and I just shook my head and mouthed I don't think so.
With my pediatrics population I don't think it would be a grand idea especially since one managed to hit a button and set my time to who knows where!
Oh I have to add. I bought a water RESISTANT watch from Walmart, washed my hands then the watch died. So I learned my lesson. From then on I would buy water PROOF!

One of my coworkers has the watch; we work in the ED, and so far no issues for her.
I, on the other hand, have no plans to buy the watch; I have no interest, especially working where anything and everything is expected-to each their own!
