I want to say thank you to the people in the Arizona forums. I hope to move there in March. I have been researching all the schools for hours, and the info on this forum has been so valuable, because you can actually talk to people who have had expierence with each school.
About my topic, I have been reading allot of negative things about Apollo College, which I am like 90% sure that is were I will be going.
All the horror stories about accreditation and little old sally who spent 40,000 dollars on an education, and now her credits wont transfer and she has to start over bla, bla, bla.
I just got off the phone with a real nice admin counselor at Apollo. She has been there three years. She told me that they already have Matriculation agreements in place for several schools in Arizona that will accept Apollo credits toward a B.S.N.
You can also tranfer allot of prerequisites in to Apollo, and save allot on tuition. I will have six prerequisites that will transfer by the time I start in July. So, I will be done with R.N. in hand while you community collegers are still waiting to get in. Nothing wrong with that if you are 19 years old living with your Mom and don't have to wory about it, but for the rest of us in the real world with car payments, and rent or you are on the street: We need to get to work Now
Okay...chiming in again...I am a peer of KF and we were the best class Apollo Collge has and will ever see!
BACKING OFF MY SOAP BOX...
Clinicals are held at any Iasis Healthcare facility ( Phoenix St Lukes, Tempe St Lukes, and Mountain Vista Medical Center). Preceptorship (6th semester) has a variety of options depending on the number of students they need to place.
The contracts are with UOP and Apollo is now owned by Devry...not sure what that means for future grads, but I would hope great things and more opportunity. Maybe they will get a BSN program and me and KF can come back with a discount! LOL...good luck on all your endeavors and feel free to email me as well any questions you have.
BTW... I passed my NCLEX too!
Thanks so much RNforkids!
So when it comes time to do your preceptorship what are some of the facility options they give you...and is the preceptorship where you spend time in the area that you are most interested in working?
Oh...P.S. is one clinical location better than another (Phoenix vs. Tempe etc. )
Thanks so much for your help and congrats on passing the NCLEX!!!
What rnforkids said. For 6 sem preceptorship you get to choose from all those great hosps above, plus I think some of our people were in "niche" areas only b/c it was a gigantic class. You can assume that you'll have the Iasis hosps to choose from, you can voice your preferences for the hosp and clinical area you want to be placed in, and they will attempt to honor that. No promises or guarantees ever made, it really all depends upon how many nurses sign on to do preceptorship. But for a 'normal' size class you should be fine.
hi all,
this is where you can check all assigned clinical rotations.
good luck to all.

yes, i realize you are talking about apollo, and that is why i posted the link. this is the "clinical rotation" for all nursing in the phoenix metropolitan area. asu, grand canyon, pima, maricopa skills etc. if you would kindly visit the site and scroll down you will see that apollo is the first school posted in alphabetical order.
just trying to be of some help to those who would like to see the clinical rotation for all schools for 2009.
I stand corrected, all I saw on that web page was "Maricopa Community colleges" of which Apollo is really not, so I assumed they weren't on it, but they are.
Plus I/we had no idea such a thing existed, we were always told we had to wait till the last minute for the clinical schdl to come out...then it was subject to change anyway!
I have a quick question for you...the A&P teacher told us today that before entering the 3rd semester, we have to take a competency exam to make sure that we are ready to enter the nursing blocks. Can someone tell me more about this test...what is it like, was it hard, what should I study?
Thanks!
