I want to say thank you to the people in the Arizona forums. I hope to move there in March. I have been researching all the schools for hours, and the info on this forum has been so valuable, because you can actually talk to people who have had expierence with each school.
About my topic, I have been reading allot of negative things about Apollo College, which I am like 90% sure that is were I will be going.
All the horror stories about accreditation and little old sally who spent 40,000 dollars on an education, and now her credits wont transfer and she has to start over bla, bla, bla.
I just got off the phone with a real nice admin counselor at Apollo. She has been there three years. She told me that they already have Matriculation agreements in place for several schools in Arizona that will accept Apollo credits toward a B.S.N.
You can also tranfer allot of prerequisites in to Apollo, and save allot on tuition. I will have six prerequisites that will transfer by the time I start in July. So, I will be done with R.N. in hand while you community collegers are still waiting to get in. Nothing wrong with that if you are 19 years old living with your Mom and don't have to wory about it, but for the rest of us in the real world with car payments, and rent or you are on the street: We need to get to work Now

Im glad you have found the right fit for you. I'm inno way saying this is NOT a good school as I have no experience with the ADN program there. I just was an employee at one point in time. What I do know is that many of these reps will tell you one thing and then you get down there and it isn't exactly as they really said it would be. You would know by now that you cannot take everyone's word in life. You do need to do your research and that includes talking to current and previous students. Also, go to the AZBN and look up info there. But I'm sure you have done that already. There are other thread's on this forum that have actual student experiences here. Some are good, some are not so good. I've said it before...what works for one person may not work for another. I sure don't have 5 years to take pre-req's and wait on waitlists...but my situation is diiferent than yours! Anyhow, good luck in whichever way you decide

I have no experience with this school.
Get everything in writing, signed, on letterhead. He said/she said carries little to no weight in a dispute.
Hope all goes as you plan.

I would find out the schools that they have articulation agreements with and call them to insure that it is so. As mentioned previously sometimes they tell you exactly what you want to hear, true or not (especially if it is a 'for profit' organization).

I think the only one that I know they have an agreement with, as do most of the upstart Nursing Schools in the valley, is University of Phoenix because they pretty much accept anything.

I'm not sure of this, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Apollo College and UoP are owned by the same private-for-profit corporation (which would explain why UoP would accept Apollo credits without questions or problems).

That's not correct. I know this because I work for one of those institutions. UoP is owned by Apollo Group which is different than Apollo College which is owned by U.S. Education Corporation.
Thank you for correcting me (I don't like being wrong :)).
No worries. We all learn something new everyday, right? It's something I love about these forums.
Thanks for all the advice guys, especially those of you who live in Arizona. I will call them though, and get the names of Schools they have agreements with. Then I will call them schools and see what they say, then I will post it here o.k.
Yes they are a for profit group, but if you think community colleges and universities are not in it to make money, I would think again. I know plenty of Universities that would not accept transfer credits from community colleges. My sister got her c.p.a. Here in Oregon. She did her associates at a community college before transferring to Southern Oregon University. She even took the classes S.O.U told her to take that were supposed to transfer. But come transfer time, they took way less than they told here they would. Why?, single Mom, lot's of aid, you should get the picture.
Even if uop is the only one, which I am sure it is not. What is wrong with that? My uncle is an a.s.e. Certified mechanic. He has his own shop, and makes 60$ an hour and gets plenty of business. He took his classes through the mail before the Internet. Guss what? He was still able to take and pass all ase certifications and become a mechanic.
I have talked to manny administrators in my valley who have no problem hiring people who get there bachelors or masters degree from a legitimate online school like uop. It shows that they will do what it takes to get things done

Jess,
Go for you for making a decision and getting into a program! We all have our own path to RN, and once you get it, thats what matters. As a side note, Apollo has ACICS accreditation, which is the highest that a "trade" school can get. They are allowed to grant degrees as high as a masters if they so choose with that level of accredidation, and by the way, they were just bought by DeVry which is the cream of the crop. You've made a great choice!
I, personally, will be sticking with the MCCD program for nursing school. There's nothing wrong with Apollo College, but I prefer to stick with regionally accredited schools and nursing schools that are NLN accredited. ...just personal preference.
