Has anyone ever done this course. What is it like? What did you like or dislike about the course. Any input would be appreciated.
Many thanks,

I just took this course a few weeks ago. I found it a LOT easier than ACLS. Overall, I thought the course was good, I just dont like sitting in the classroom for 8 hours a day for 2 days :angryfire
Since I dont work that often in peds, I was not sure what to expect, and I was afraid that I would fail, but you really learn a lot about kids, and what path they take when they deteriorate, which is much different than an adult. They also spend some time about communicating with the family during and after a resuscitation attempt, which they didnt spend as much time on during ACLS. I hope this helps some, if you have any questions, I would be glad to help!

Our level one trauma center doesn't recognie APLS because there is no route to recertify or update your information. PALS and ENPC are actually much more detailed and geared to the ER and as a bonus - they are constantly updating their information.
I didnt realize that APLS was a different course than PALS! I was assuming that this is what the OP was talking about PALS, but was just calling it by a different name. You learn something new every day!

Thanks for the feedback. I am surprised re: APLS and feel cheated not knowing that information on recertification, now I wish I had enrolled in PALS last month. Hmmm....Oh well next time I will research it more and ask more questions. $ 800.00 canadian. Including the APLS and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Conference.

I have not heard of the "APLS". I am a "PALS" instructor and have been since the late '80s. About 1989, I think. If there is ANY way I can help ANYONE I will do my best.

I have taken both-PALS is geared toward recognition of resp failure and shock and their management. APLS is a comprehensive emergency medicine course of pediatric emergencies. I would recommend both!!

Thanks for your reply...As an instructor, what mistakes do you see people make the most? To they tend to rush through mocks / codes...forgetting basic ABC's. I am very nervous about this course because the text book we received is so intimidating. We were told to read it cover to cover and that was the extent of their preparation for us. Whew....I'm feeling nauseated.

I've done it 3 times.............
it's a breeze, because kids don't "normally" have cardiac issues. It's mostly based on airway and cirulation r/t dehydration, sepsis etc. The only cardiac thing that gets touched on, is kids about 6 months or less where fossa ovalis??? is concerened. Actually after the hole between the atriums closes is the fossa ovalis, but I can't think of the pre-close name???
Help me with that name someone? :-)
