I am 2 years down and 2 to go in my nursing school, and I am an LNA in LTC and a cardiac medical hospital setting. I was just wondering if there was anything you wish you were told/wish you did in nursing school or when you got out that you didnt realize at the time. anything advice would be great:D

When they said there wasn't time to pee or to eat lunch, they weren't exagerating!

I'm not sure my school could have better prepared us for this because I think it just comes with experience, but I didn't feel prepared to deal with family members when I was a new grad. Sometimes it seems as though you are dealing with the family more than the patient and there are times when they interfere with your care of the patient.

That getting my ADN instead of a BSN really will matter. Of course, back then it didn't. Of course, I am so old I went to school back when the earth's crust was cooling.

Uh, I think it's a good thing they didn't tell me these things, because 1. I wouldn't have believed them, and 2. I would have quit nursing school.
Good thing I didn't . . . (it's a love/hate thing).

If you really knew what the real world of nursing is like while still in nursing school.....

"I am so old I went to school back when the earth's crust was cooling." That is too funny!!!! Hadn't heard that one used before. That's a good one!! If allowed, I might have to borrow it from you!!

I'd suggest for you to start making contacts now to secure a job when you graduate. I know it's hard to find time and think about a job already but calling/e mailing nurse recruiters and telling them where you are in your program at places you'd like to work would show great initiative. Just ask them if they can give you any advice on how to best become part of their team after graduation. Maybe they can suggest clinical rotations etc that you can request for your practicum your senior year.
It's great that you're getting experience as an LNA. That would be something else I'd suggest. As much working experience in a health care setting prior to graduation would help. We were advised to not work while in school if possible, so I didn’t. I wish I would have worked as a CNA for the contacts and experience.
Hope it helps and best of luck karyan!! :)

That healthcare is not immune to the soul sucking that is common in the corporate world. You are not valued, you are just a mere worker ant. Go to med school or PA school instead. You will have more control.
