Anything nice to say?

Hi Lorrie,

Thanks for your post. I was feeling pretty horrified myself. I know that nursing isn't easy and can be darn hard and stressful at times,but I feel that if we nurses can work together finding the strengths that each specialty has, it would make it so much nicer to come in each day. Patient care will stress us enough, we don't need the additional stress of worrying if we are stepping on someone's toes or ego if we try to help each other. I know that for myself when I do finish with the RN program I'm going to each of my colleagues has someone who has something special to offer, something that I may not have but wish to acquire.

I'm currently training as an EMT and the atmosphere there is totally opposite. Yes the pay is poor, but the degree of teamwork is amazing.

and RN's-I have learned so much and continue to learn from you. Three more semesters and I will FINALLY have mine.

Now... if anyone reading this wants to argue about LPN's being better than CNA's and ADN'S being better than LPN's, and BSN's griping about ADN's and etc. etc.

GO AWAY!!!

You are a nurse. Your license says Licensed Practical NURSE. Now as a student you are studing for more responsibility. I know you will continue to respect the work of the LPNs. All who are working in hospitals are special, hard working, and caring or they are in the wrong place.

This is great. I've been a nurse for 23 years now and love my job. All of my co workers have strengths and weaknesses, but it sure is nicer to work together and build on the strengths rather than focus on the weaknesses.

Yes, the hours are long, pay mediocre and patients less than desireable sometimes, but I'm doing a job I love, helping people in need and plan to continue with all the positive outlook I can.

Let's all encourage others and smile!!

What a refreshing change of pace from the other posts I've read here! While I realize that nurses often need to vent their frustrations, sometimes I am saddened by the negativity I see here. Yes, the conditions of my chosen profession aren't always the most desirable. But I went into nursing for one reason, the patients. Just when I'm feeling as if I'm at the end of my rope, my boss hands me a letter from an old patient thanking me for the care she received, or a box of cheap candy from a patients husband as I wheel her out to the car. These things take me back to the day I decided I wanted to be a nurse, when all that mattered was being there for the patients. And for the CNA vs. LPN vs. RN vs. ADN vs. BSN debate, I'm grateful for all of the wonderful people who work along side me to ensure patient satisfaction. Yes there are bad caregivers, but they come in all shapes, sizes, and liscensures! The older nurses on my unit make fun of me for my optimism. I hope that if I become as some of them have, I have the insight to bow out gracefully.

Let me just say congrats on your hard work. Let me also say that I hope you can keep this positive attitude. This negativity is why you must keep this positive attitue. Due to our working conditions, nurses (myself included) are at times angry, sad, and frustrated and have no place else to vent. This is a much better place to vent than at work where the patients are. They don't need to hear this. Anyway, I go to work with a positive attitude that I will help at least one person today, and I usually do.....

Change begins with an awakening to a problem. Nurses are fighting for the right to practice nursing in a prudent and judicious manner. Some posts may be perceived as negative but they are honest and truthful accounts of nurses' feelings .

Hi Lorrie, I agree with you! I happen to be a nurse aide & work on the nueroscience unit in one of the top 100 hospitals in the country & everyone works together. I have even seen our nurse manager give baths & help ake beds to help the aides & help the RN'S & LPN'S also. No one has an ego problem on our floor, just a common goal, the best patient care possible!

Lorrie - I am a new member and have been scanning this forum, finding it both informative and, unfortunately, at times a bit disheartening. I have been an RN for 27 years, 18 of those in trauma nursing. I applaud your recognition of those members of the health care team (yes, TEAM!!) who work together to provide the best care possible. When you mention LPN's being the "backbone" of patient care - how right you are! When I started nursing (and for years afterward) I learned so much from these wonderful nurses, not the least of which was time management, and compassion in the face of crisis.

Lorrie, thanks so much for this positive post! Hope to see much more of this.

Thank you thank you, Lorrie. I needed to see good things being said. I really hate to see how angry folks are and are cruel and feel justified being rude/crude and socially unacceptable. I appreciate the folks I have learned from, whatever the role they lived. Every (wo)man is my superior, in that I have learned from him. I forget who said that.

The attitude of negativity is more destructive and pervasive than ever. We who love making a difference for patients and other coworkers have the best place. We have the chance to change the world, one step at a time. I tell people out loud, "I love my job. I love nursing". I get strength from others who share the committment i feel. So thank you for this posting because our strength has more than increased 10 fold. Keep up the positive. After all, negativity was contagious, wasn't it? So we can spread around some positive and not be pollyannas. ( )
