Anything good about working in Texas?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I'll be moving to Rice, Tx in 6-12 months. I'm a little uneasy about working in Tx from reading some of the threads. I'll be living near Corsicana, Waxahachie, and Ennis..any good places for an RN to work? How about Baylor in Dallas? Agencies? Travel Companies?

Any advice is appreciated.

FYI..I have several years ICU experience, a few years PACU and Float, 3 years case management experience, a little HH and Wound care and 5 years clinical instructor experience.

post here

thanks for any advice!!

I can think of one other great thing about working in Texas..the state is NOT California.

Amen and hallelujah! That's why I'm still here.

Anyone working in the Austin area? Is there a surplus of nurses there? What's the market like? I'm an Austin girl who moved away a while ago, and I'm thinking of moving back down there because I've been missing it :(

How many of you have had a problem with group one? Is it really as big of an issue as some claim? what can a new grad expect in the Dallas/ft. worth area? How about Austin?

As of last Tuesday, I've been in Texas 10 years. Have worked for 3 facilities on the Dallas side of DFW. Have friends in facilities all over. Haven't had nor heard of someone having a problem with Group One.

I don't know about smaller companies, but at the larger, acute care facilities...HR cares more about Group One than nurse managers, because in the end, HR keys in the reason someone leaves and chooses eligible/not eligible for re-hire.

(For the love of everything that's holy...please don't turn this into a Group One thread! :smackingf)

It was a simple question that directly relates to working conditions in Texas. I personally like Texas and have an interest in moving there someday so no need to get defensive. I'm not trying to denigrate Tx.

It was more tongue-in-cheek than defensive, and not aimed at you nor anyone specifically. After proofing my post, I was afraid that it could open up a Pandora's Box all over again. There are several threads on the topic and many of them aren't pretty.

I apologize if it came across personally. :flowersfo

I cannot help but notice that these threads tend to turn "unpretty" when a small handful of individuals from other states post that their state is so much 'better,' or that TX is horrible for working (when they've never worked here).

Unnecessary input can brew hard feelings. ;)

I couldn't agree more. Reminds me of the old saying: "If you can't say something nice..."
