Anything good about CO nursing?????

Published

After reading a lot of the previous posts, I haven't read too many good things about the health system in CO. Has anyone had good job experiences? I was thinking of moving to CO once I graduate, but now I'm really having second thoughts.

Anyone?

There are good and bad things about everywhere you may work. We have some great hospitals with new grad programs. There is a shortage of nursing programs, but plenty of jobs in all speciality areas. You have to keep in mind that people are much more likely to say something if they are unhappy than if they are happy with something, so you aren't really getting a balanced view. I have my personal favorites, of course, but I would recommend coming out and checking things out for yourself.

I agree with Melina, people are more prone to vent about unhappiness than they are to talk about a good experience (unless it's exceptional). Especially at a place like AllNurses where we can all come together to let off steam and frustrations with people that will understand.

I have had good experiences with hospitals in the Denver Metro area and really enjoy Colorado in general. It's a beautiful place to live and I think the best advice I can offer would be repeating what Melina said...come check it out for youself, see what you think :)

RN in 08, have you worked as a Nurse yet in Colorado? I am just curious.

No, I haven't worked as a nurse yet. I work as a CNA. I have worked in Banner and Exempla hospitals over the last 3 years :)

Gosh, I too am hoping for some good news. I live in Colorado and am a first year nursing student. It is my passion and I cannot wait to become a nurse, but I worry too when I hear all the negativity about our state because I know I will be living here for the rest of my life. I am in a rural area in Southeast Colorado, so I think that even further complicates things. Hopefully we will be lucky enough to find jobs in wonderful places. :)

lol..anyone???

Personaly I'm happy working as a nurse in CO. I'm working in Denver, I've got a good scope of practice, docs who listen to me when I speak, and answer my questions. For the most part I enjoy the people I'm working with, we help and cover for each other. (liek everywere there are personalities that I don't get along with, and who don't get along with me)

Yes there are some things I'd like to be better. Of course it would be nice if I was payed more, but then again, it would just put me in a higher tax bracket. Some days there aren't enough nurses, and it's difficult to get the job done safely, and you feel tired at the end of your shift.

I've worked in CA, TX, PA, MD, ME and KS as well as CO. I like it.

Like it anything else and just like working as a nurse anywere else it's what you put into it and how you choose to respond to the inherent stressors of the job that makes the difference. Not the location.

I am frustrated with CO nursing as well, but come to think of it, I was also frustrated with nursing in VA. I think it's a combination of hospital politics and crummy staffing, the latter of which won't go away unless you are unionized, IMO.

I'm working in Minneapolis, MNA (union) hospital and my job is great. I'm from Littleton, Colorado and have wanted to move back for years. I'm afraid I'll be really dissapointed with the nursing jobs in Colorado. I have heard a few things from travelers that have worked in Colorado and then come here, and they say Minnesota is great.

Oh come on now, the grass is always greener, and in most places I've worked over the years, it's the facility not the state that makes the difference. There are definitly places here I wouldn't work, but then there are great places. It has nothing to do with the "State"

It is frustrating to work anywhere for anybody in any job! You should work for yourself for a while and see how frustrating that is! I'm just a student but I think I will enjoy working in a rural community where I own some gorgeous mountain property. Colorado has a nursing shortage like most anywhere so your sure to be overworked, that IS frustrating. But you are sure to find a job. Come visit us and see if you like it here. We have big cities where you will remain anonymous (like it or not) any small tows where everybody knows everybody's (like it or not).

Good luck in whatever you chose.
