Hi everyone, I was just wondering...what do you do for the Summer? Besides maybe camp nursing, are there any other nursing jobs available? Thanks

I just signed up today to work in the ESY (extended school year) program for elementary and middle school. Four hours per day of feeding, tube feeds, caths, diapering, and lifting. Short hours, good money, lots of work. But it's a special kind of nursing. The teachers are great, the kiddos are special--each with their own story, and many of those stories help me to keep my own life in perspective. Nursing is great!
Fantastic thoughts Avalonian- This is a great post. You are going to fit in nicely with us. :)

I usually work every other Fri/Sat at the local hospital and sometimes a few other scattered shift if I'm talked into it. I try to enjoy the summer off with the kiddos and the husband as much as possible. I'm going to start job hunting in the beginning of May, though, so who knows what the summer holds!

Nursing tech... in Washington state after 1st year nursing school and one acute care clinical rotation you an apply for a nurse tech. Basically it is an easy route to doing similar things as an LPN would. You can only do what you have been checked off on in school and you can't touch opiods. But you can pass meds and work a med cart. you have to find an employer willing to hire and insure you under their licence, and you have to be supervised by an RN. I have a great relationship with the facility I have started with as a CNA and continue to work for as a CNA. So that's my plan. I am pretty excited for the pay raise and the experience.
