haha, there must be one of those in EVERY unit....we have one.... we'll call her.....Chloe.... she spends her WHOLE entire day in her patient's rooms making them a nervous wreck by hovering over them and constantly shoving pillows under every extremity :)

She'd drive me crazy if I was a patient!

I used to work with a nurse that worked 3-11 that was so slow she would still be there at 1:00AM, in the patient's rooms messing around, passing meds, doing things. She didn't last long thank goodness. It was so irritating that I would be making rounds, getting them settled into sleep, and she'd be passing a 9pm med she was late on. :)

I wonder what their evaluation report looks like. Your description sounds like one of my classmates when I was in nursing school. After graduation, she decided to become an RN. Then she met a young man from another state, and she moved there to be near him. I don't know what became of her after that. But I do know one thing for sure, none of us will ever forget her.

Geesh,

Apparently I'm not the only one that works with a little gem like mine..LOL. Trauma Queen..you have it soooo right about the pillows. This nurse is on the "skin care" committee and she is constantly looking for reddened areas at all hours of the night and then she proceeds with "the pillows". I couldn't even see one guy..she had so many pillows stuffed under him!! And then she will even try to re-position people that are perfectly able to move around in bed themselves...it's crazy! I forgot to mention that this lady has been a nurse for years and years. I think everytime she has her review....the nurse manager tells her to "hurry up" and "not bug patients so much"...apparently it hasn't made a big impact on her. No one will take further action because...deep down..they feel she's just being a "good nurse". Granted...I do love her and do think she's a good nurse....it just gets so damn annoying sometimes! I think that's part of the reason I left my 12 hour weekends.....she was my partner...ahhhhhhhhh. I forgot too..she is ultra religious...which is fine....but she often says 'good night and God bless you"...that's totally not called for...how does she know that these folks worship God...u know? That's pressing your own beliefs on to patients....that's not right in my opinion. Ok..enough second round venting..LOL..

Oh..I forgot...she also will go into patient rooms in the middle of the night and ask them if they have to "urinate". They will look in amazement and proceed to say "no"...she then says...."I think we better get you up to the commode and try"....unbelievable!!

INCREDIBLE! I'm sure the patients she awakened to go to the potty didn't appreciate it.

I will now proceed to tell you about a nurse who has been an employee at our local hospital. I have named her, "Nurse Know it all." I worked with her when I was in nursing school, and she tried to take the credit for locating an atrial fibrillation that I had discovered. Be as it may, the time I am now talking about is when I was a patient. I was bedridden at the time due to steroid induced myopathy. I asked her for the bedpan. She placed me on it, I did what I needed to do, and then my assigned nurse for the day came in. She asked me if there was anything she could do for me, and I told her she could remove the bedpan that was under me.

When she removed it, it was facing the wrong way and was empty. Guess what I was now laying in. Well, that little nurse said she was going to teach Nurse know it all how to place a bedpan under a patient. She then went to get Nurse Know it all, brought her back to the room, and showed her the proper way to position the bedpan. Nurse Know it all replied, "I've always given the bedpan the other way, and I have been employed here 20 years. :rotfl: That's not something I would brag about.

:chuckle We have a skin care expert too. She will give you report with detailed descriptions about small dry scabs, and forget to tell you she ran blood on two patients. :uhoh3:

I have worked with both extremes, too fast and too slow. I don't think the patients enjoy either one, but at least the slow one was close to the room when the call light went off.

hi folks,
she asks me for help with patient turns....and never has all the required items ready or decides that maybe she'll get a quick set of vitals first...meanwhile..i"m standing there , waiting for her...with patients of my own to tend to, etc.
like this morning....she was working a 7p to 7a...things were pretty under control so she was going to go home early.....well...she finally left at 6:30am....why did she even bother??? then...she leaves me to pick up all her am meds, finger sticks, and i & o's....it;s like she picked the busiest time of the am to leave. just errrrrked me all to heck. anyone work with someone like this?

wow! you are a much better person than i am lol! when i have the above happen (people not ready when they ask my help) i politely ask them to come get me when they *are* ready.

what kind of facility do you work in? why would she be allowed to leave early? even more interesting, how does she get away w/leaving early *and* leaving her duties unfinished ???? :uhoh3:

We have one nurse on the 7-3 shift whom I'll call Carol, and this description fits her to a "T". I follow her sometimes when I come in at 3, and on these occasions I'm doing 4 PM vitals and fingersticks before she's ready to give report. She fusses endlessly with the minutiae of patient care, such as writing half a page of progress notes on each patient, yet she's often behind on taking off orders and NEVER passes meds on time. I wonder sometimes how she'd do if she had to handle a normal patient load like the rest of us (she never has more than three). We all feel kind of sorry for her because she's severely overweight, and she's no spring chicken either......but then again, what am I, a 23-year-old bouncing around in a size 5?? :rotfl:

Of course, the reason management keeps her on is, first and foremost, she IS an older worker, and she also happens to be a sweetheart. I love her dearly myself, she is a nice human being, and she probably was a very good nurse at one time.........I just hate following her, then seeing her sitting at the nurses' station for 2 hours past the end of her shift charting while I'm passing her overdue meds.

Oh, well, I shouldn't be too hard on her.......after all, that could very well be me in another 15 years. :uhoh3:
