Just was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as I am in applying for the FALL 2010 nursing at nvcc. Did anyone received their acceptance letter yet? thanks

Hello everyone!!!!

I called (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) and she said letters are being mailed out today...So good luck everyone.

I also checked Blackboard and I found the same message saying ,"Welcome to NVCC Nursing Program"

I'm super excited, I know this can only mean one thing. Good luck to everyone, I'll keep you posted on when I get an actually letter.

did you apply to the lpn to rn?

I applied to the RN..

gentle tos reminder:

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

I graduated from the program in May 2009. It is a decent program. Most of the instructors are great. Be very nice to the secretaries, as they are super nice!! My advice on successfully completed the program

1) Do ALL the reading!! One can download the lectures--they are in powerpoint format----they are helpful, but they do not provide all the material you need! But great to download and make notes on during class

2) Ensure you read over the "tables" and "boxes" within the reading as they tend to summarize what has been stated

3) Get the latest Saunders NCLEX prep book. Go over the chapter in the Saunders that correlates with the assigned reading! You just may seem some very similar question from Saunders in an exam! More importantly, Saunders summarizes things very well. Many like the Reviews & Rationales books.

4) Some recorded the lectures, I did as well, but NEVER actually listened to them, lol

5) Keep an open mind during clinicals and get dirty, lol More hands on time the better. But don't worry, you will learn most of ur skills out of school!

6) During your last semester one may have the opportunity to do a preceptorship, DO IT!!! It is where you work one on one with a RN. Think one has to get a min of 115 hrs over half a semester. Try to get it in the last half of the semester. As if they like ya, they may offer u a job!! That is how I got mine

7) Ensure you know ur math! The drug dosage questions are not that hard, but people do fail the exam! And every nursing test you have, there are drug dosage calculations on it--very easy marks! READ THE WHOLE QUESTION!!!! and round off properly! the is no trailing zero ie 0.5000 should be just 0.5 Know how to go from mcg to mg to g. lbs to kg and vice versa Liek i said read the whole question! and DOUBE/TRIPLE check your work. So many people make stupid mistakes. I recall 1 super silly easy question that stated something like setting the iv pump to 50ml/hr and then it gave a bunch of not required info and it asked how many cc hour should the pump be set at! well 1 ml = 1 cc, so it was 50 cc/hr but people didnt read the question and had made up crazy formulas, lol READ the question and know what they are asking. Sometimes they throw in information/numbers you do not need!

Best of luck

Thanks flames, that's some sound advice. :)

Ladies,

I also applied for the traditional RN track and logged into Blackboard, and there is no message for me. This must mean I didn't get accepted- but the good news is that hopefully this confirms that you guys did- CONGRATS!

It just seemed to me--that the ones that had trouble--where the ones that didnt do all the reading, they relied mainly on the power points--which u download and print out from ur computer. As well try and get al the non-nursing classes out of the way prior to course start if u can!

Keep in mind too that some that do get accepted--will decline the acceptance as they have may have been accepted into another program or another field!!

Nothing is official without an admission confirmation letter from the program. Any number of reasons could explain why some have the link and others do not, regardless of admission status.

Also, those who may not get in inititially are put on a waiting list in case someone drops from the program. And believe me, there are quite a few who do for whatever reason--I know this because last year I was one of them :) Good luck!

that makes me feel a little better... since i do not have the link either. Good luck to you all :-)

For those of you who saw a link on their blackboard page...would anyone be willing to share your statistics? GPA, TEAS scores? Even just a range..I know for the Accelerated program, most everyone who got admitted had like a 4.0 or close to it...
