Anyone waiting for acceptance in NVCC nursing fall 2010?

Just was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as I am in applying for the FALL 2010 nursing at nvcc. Did anyone received their acceptance letter yet? thanks

I have been out to greet my mail lady everyday this week, anxiously awaiting a letter from NOVA. I don't have the message on my Blackboard screen either, and keep telling myself that maybe they just haven't entered everyone yet. I wish everyone luck!

Hey Guys,

I got my letter today!! I'm super excited, was so afraid as I didn't get into the accelerated program in April and when I saw another thin envelope in my mailbox my heart dropped....

As far as the link on blackboard: the letter clearly says not everyone will see this link yet--so don't take this as an indicator that you are not in the program! They are currently setting up the online orientation board and technically (according to my acceptance letter) it won't be available for a week or two. We will receive email notification when we are to access the site.

In terms of stats, I don't think mine will be helpful indicator of anything, but I will share as someone asked. I have a 3.9 cumulative, scored over 90 on all sections of the TEAS, don't have another degree and have all the co-requisites finished. I know someone else who has the link on Blackboard (still waiting on her letter) who has a 3.4 and all the co-reqs finished as well. I also know last year they took almost everyone who applied including foreign students, and 2 from MD, but this year they had a ton more applications for 150 ish spots. I really think the nursing dept needs to publish these stats somewhere because I feel like the only way to get this info is through the grapevine which may or may not be very accurate and having this information (at least for me) would have been helpful in making decisions about other schools to apply to, etc. Hope this was helpful in some way?

Good luck to everyone! and I hope to see more celebratory replies re: the arrival of those letters!

3) Get the latest Saunders NCLEX prep book. Go over the chapter in the Saunders that correlates with the assigned reading! You just may seem some very similar question from Saunders in an exam! More importantly, Saunders summarizes things very well. Many like the Reviews & Rationales books.

6) During your last semester one may have the opportunity to do a preceptorship, DO IT!!! It is where you work one on one with a RN. Think one has to get a min of 115 hrs over half a semester. Try to get it in the last half of the semester. As if they like ya, they may offer u a job!! That is how I got mine

Best of luck

Thanks for the info, Flames! You are the third person I have seen in the past couples days mention to get Saunders right away. I was just looking at it on Amazon last night and am now definitely going to purchase it. Do you have any other study tips/suggestions for study aids?

As far as the preceptorships, are those paid or unpaid and are they in specialty areas?

thanks again for your info!

Kris

U get paid for nothing, lol! Just great experience. When me thinks about it, the preceptorship actually costs you!! As they list it as a 1 credit course!! (At least they used to) But hey, it got me a job!

To save $$$$, buy ur books from ebay, amazon and I used half.com with great success. Half.com is actually owned by ebay, but there is no bidding, you just buy it now!!

I think the most important thing 1 can do is do the reading and study! I never stayed for the whole lecture, lol signed my name and left, as a many of the profs just read from the power point slides Well ty , I can read just as well, lol, my time was better spent going over the material. But I think they have switched the program up. I know some big changes were being made after my class graduated!

As well what i found sort of useful--was finding a fellow student that was doing the online course--I was in traditional. They gave me their log-in info so I could watch the lectures from home. Not a big deal, but was nice.

Yes Saunders NCLEX book is great.

Feel free to email me for more advice!

i checked my mail and didnt get anything. anyone else not get their letter yet?

I received my letter today. Hopefully you get it tomorow. The waiting is horrible!

I have not gotten a letter yet either, but I also don't have anything listed on my BlackBoard...so maybe they have only sent out one round of letters.

Princess... that is most likely the case. The letter said we need to confirm orientation attendance by the 30th. So I imagine that they will send more letters out as people decline. Also, the letter states that if you haven't taken classes at NOVA or it has been a while since taking classes, they couldn't put up the link to orientation on those blackboards. I'm sure a lot of people will be getting their letters tomorrow too. The mail isn't always so quick. I live pretty close to the Springfield campus, so that may be why I got mine today. Good luck!:)

Hello everyone, I received my acceptance letter yesterday. I'm sure that is because I live very close to the campus. For those of you still waiting, hang in there, I know how it feels to wait for the mailman everyday.

Congrats to those who have received their acceptance letter, see you all at orientation. :)

Do they still do a math exam at orientation?? if so,and if they give u a study pkg, ensure you do the study package and understand on how to do the calculations. Read the questions and ROUND OFF properly! can't say that enough, lol Follow the instructions!

Well, I got my letter today, and it was not good news. I will hope that other people who did get accepted, also got accepted at other schools they applied to, and will increase my chances of being called in from the wait list. Congrats to those who did get in!

Did your letter say you where on a wait list?? I applied for the LPN to RN and did not get in. What track did you apply for?
