Hi Im a student at TCC and I submitted my application in middle end of April, just wondering how long it normally takes to hear something, I am waiting everyday for the mailman about to drive myself loco. Is anyone else waiting for there letter from TCC. Please share with me.
here is an example for the schools nursing website in there information packet. this is without bio 150 which is microbiology. BIO 141 and 142 is Anatomy I and II which are two different classes.
The GPA requirement to get into the program is 2.5 so i think that is the lowest they will accept. Hope this helps.
Example of point computation:
Course Course Attempts & Grades Made Points
ENG 111 A 4
BIO 141 F=0; D=1; C=2; total 3 points÷ 3 attempts 1
BIO 142 A 4
Total 9 points
hey its no problem about all the questions. i was the same way. hey you have to do your research. the college is very much so an accredited school. we don't have a bachelor program only ADN but we work very closley with other four year colleges so that you may transfer into that school or just enroll after you finish and get your BSN that is what I plan to do because its cheaper for me to do it that way. the link to the school nursing site is
http://http://www.tcc.edu/academics/divisions/healthprofessions/nursing/index.htm
let me know if this helps if you go to the information packet everything is explained in there. but let me know if you need some other help
I cannot seem to get on to the website? Is there another way to find information and when to apply and all those things...I'm so sorry for all the questions...you have a lot of patience you'll make a SUPERB nurse!!!
THIS CANNOT BE!!!!...it's too good to be true????!!!...what do you think are my chances of getting in? I have Chem (inorganic), English 1&2...got B's in all those...around 2.7-2.8...math algebra...got a c =[...this was because I just had my son and was going crazy and I got the b's because I was pregnant...I have right now intro to stat and intro psych...probably high b's in those...and I have an 3.0 in ethics...would have gotten 4.0 if not for throwing up all morning during pregnancy...and going to finish organic chem, bio1&2, and philosophy and sociology both in intro...oh oh and developmental psych...and I have a CNA 3+ years experience? Do my chances look good???...and I have references from my coworkers whom are BSN=RN's?????
i think your chances are good. i would apply into theschool and then do your application into the program. having experience is a plus it would help you out more with the nursing courses. also check into sentara school of health professions.i work at this hospital and they have a great program

Hi to everyone who has posted here.
I am a graduate of the TCC nursing program (2007) from before they started the whole "Cohort" thing.
I hear lots of you asking about taking required classes other than nursing while in nursing school. My recommendation is to finish all your other courses before starting the nursing classes. The nursing classes and clinicals will take up all your time once you start and those I know who have tried to do both have had a difficult time with it.
I got everything else out of the way first, but if you cant' at least get the tough ones finished (A&P classes and micro).
For studying, get a group or a friend you can have regular sessions with. This is also great for practicing your assessment skills. We would have weekend get togethers to practice our assessments and to study for tests. I also highly recommend using the CD's that come with your books. Lots of them are geared towards visual learners, so what you may not understand in lectures, you can get from the CD. Also the campus library has an extensive video collection for clinical skills.
In lecture, some of the instructors allow tape recorders, while others do not. If they allow taping, it is very helpful so you know you can go back in case you miss something. If they do not allow taping, it is helpful to read ahead, then you can get the gist of the lecture ahead of time, and be able to key in on pertinent info.
Be aware that unlike other classes and tests, you will not be just regurgitating facts. There are gray areas, so you will have to pick the best answer out of 4 or 5, and sometimes they may all be right but there is one that is more right that the others. In your second year you will see test questions that you will need to give more than one answer to. In order to pass most tests, you need to be able to use your critical thinking skills to come up with the right answer, not just memorize facts, although there are tests where you will give a factual answer in some cases.
Also you will have heard by now the quote "C=RN". For those of you (like myself) that had a perfect GPA (or close to it) prior to starting nursing school, get over it! I quickly resigned myself to being an average student (a B-C average). Nursing school is HARD, but you can graduate with a C and still be a nurse. I graduated with a low B, but came very close to a C. When you look for your first nursing job, they do not look at your GPA, they just want a degree (or diploma) from an accredited school, and a copy of your liscense (or your elligibility to take the NCLEX-RN).
All I can say is that I did not always like my instructors or the program, but it was well worth it in the end, and I am very proud to be a graduate of the TCC Nursing School.
Let me know if I can help any of you out in any way with studying, etc.
Good luck to you all!
Amy
