Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.
Updated:
OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!
SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:
OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:
1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.
2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.
3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves
4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate
5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.
Oh, ohh, one more...
? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone
OK your turn....
thank you classic123 , it sure helped. i am studying from nclex rn 6th edition springhouse review and in assessment finding for hg is metabolic acidosis and subsequently in diagnostic evaluation for hg is alkalosis, that's why i was confused. now when you explained it to me i see it as a typing error . thanks again:)
Did anyone come across a list of diets for all the different diseases? I'am having trouble keeping them all straight ;-)
love 214 i found this helpful. scroll down to the diet section. (by the way cho--carbohydrate and chon-protein. I found the section on position helpful as well.

drugs taken in the morning:
diuretics- (keeps you pee in the evening can't sleep)
lasix (furosemide)
bumetanide (bumex)
spironolactone (aldactone)
amiloride (midamor)
acetazolamide (diamox)
mannitol (osmitrol)
antidiabetic agent-
chlopropamide(diabinese) best taken in the morning with food so sleep
will not disturbed by increased urination..
drugs that causes insomnia- (so you need to take in the morning w/ meals)
accutane (isotretinoin)
aminophylline (theophylline) (morning even in an empty stomach)
theodur (theophyline)
synthroid (levothyroxine sodium)
epinephrine
sudafed (pseudoephedrine)
I am sorry probably it's the way I express myself in English. I've found two opposite findings in HG. one is acidosis ( from ketosis ), but ABG analysis reveals alkalosis ( loss of hydrogen from vomiting ) . for me it's confusing to find both at the same time. thank you Feliz3
Dear kocurik77,
I am so glad you found someone who was able to help you! feliz3
hi everyone i test on monday 1/12. I m just so nervous. Ihave been doing practice test and still doing it. So tired of studying actually. I have also been reading these facts. I love it full of good info. Any advice as what i should do during last moments? thanksHere my some of the facts
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS): rare disorder and occurs as a SE of antipsychotic meds (such as quetiapine (seroquel)) . Characterized by muscular rigidity, tachycardia, hyperthermia, sweating, altered consciousness, automic dysfunction and increase cpk.
Serotonin syndrome: reported in pt taking two or more medications that increase CNS serotonin levels by different mechanism. the most common drug combinations associated with serotonin syndrome involve the MAOIs, SSRI, and tricyclic antidepressants. the symptoms you see are confusion, nausea, palpitations, increased muscle tone and twitching muscles and agitation.
when taking iron--vit c enhances the absorption. liquid iron may discolor teeth, in that case pt may drink with orange juice through straw. drinking milk with Iron pill may not let iron be absorbed. Iron may cause n/v when taken in empty stomach...take with food.
atelplase (activase tissure plasminogen acivator) for the treatment of MI. Improved perfusion. return to ST segment to baseline on a 12 lead ECG.
GERD may be aggravated by fatty diet. A diet low in fat would decrease the symtoms of GERD. Cigarette smoking becuase of nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, chocolate and meperidine (demerol) should be avoided. also encourage pt to eat small meals throughout the day rather than big meals.
Lithium-- pt will have increased thirst, increased urination therefore increased sodium loss through urine. encourage pt to take food that have sodium. also monitor for lithium levels...
Dear zoomzoom2425,
May you forget about all your insecurities by realizing that by getting prepared to take the NCLEX you are laying the foundations for your success, for the achievement of your goals. May you see the realization of your innermost dreams and focus on the fulfillment of the plans you so carefully created when you decided you wanted to be a nurse. May you be at ease and in control when you sit to take the NCLEX. Amen. feliz3

ok so i took the nclex today and let me tell you it was tough I have to admit it. there was definitely some guessing involved. When the test didn't shut off in 75 questions, i was kind of nervous. Then finally after two hours it shut off in 89 questions. I dont know I how did, like people have been saying I don't feel like I did all that great. But i have a gut feeling that i may have just passed. The questions after 75 questions got easier and I belive I may have gotten most of them correct. I had tons of teaching questions...about 10 SATA questions (which one my weakest points), few peads, couple OB, some psych, lots of meds (i believe i got of these correct), some infection control and safety, and none drug calculations or delegation (too bad these were my strongest points). Overall it was a tough test and i had been studying and took tons of practice questions.
oh dear god i just hope i passed. I cant go through taking this test again.
good luck to anyone who is going to take this test. I hope you all the best.
