Anyone Up For Random FACT THROWING??

Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.

Updated:

OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!

SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:

OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:

1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.

2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.

3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves

4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate

5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.

Oh, ohh, one more...

? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone

OK your turn....

I believe God, Helped me pass Nclex through this site. I failed nclex twice and I never knew this site existed until my second failure. I typed failed Nclex twice on google and look where it landed me? Here:D. I learned alot from facts throwing, I mean alot. The infectious control site helped big time, did I mention I had this prioritization book by Lacharity and never used in my first two exams. Finally This site mentioned it and I was preparing to go buy the book when I realized I had it.. Thank you very much you guys, Feliz and everyone who posted useful material in here. God bless.

Hello:

l test on the 13th of jan.

l am using this stratedy to learn psychotropic medications.

Most drugs especially psychotropic medications acts as CNS STIMULANTS OR CNS DEPRESSANTS. THIS strategy invovles in determining which are the cns exictations and CNS INHIBITIORS. if 3 of the options are all cns up and 1 CNS DOWN- pick the CNS DOWN. if 3 of the options are all cns down and 1 is CNS UP - pICK THE CNS UP.

FOR EXAMPLE.

The nurse administer WYAMINE to a client. The nurse should monitor which of the following adverse effect associated with WYAMINE.

HYPOTENSION

BRADYCARDIA

SHOCK

HYPERTENSION

THE ANSWER IS (d) HYPERTENSION BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY ONE WITH HIGN CNS.

The nurse is monitoring client receiving Parnate (MAO) which serious side effect or adverse reaction can occur with high dose of MAO

MUSCLE SPASTICITY

BRADYCARDIA

HYPOTENSION

DEPRESSION

THE ANSWER IS MUSCLE SPASTICITY - ONLY ONE WITH HIGH CNS

...about Informed Consent Guidelines

  • Requirements of client:

a) has mental capacity

b) it is voluntarily done

c) understands the treatment and the information presented to him/her

  • Requirements of health care provider (perfomer of the treatment, procedure or surgery):

a) shares and discusses with the client information about planned treatment, procedure or surgery, its risks/benefits and alternate treatments

b) gives the client an opportunity to ask questions and have all questions answered

  • If a client waves right to informed consent, that client's decision must be documented in the client's medical record

  • If client is deemed incompetent to make his/her own informed decisions about health care in a court of law, a court-appointed guardian makes these decisions

  • Informed consent for minors is obtained from the client's parent or the legal guardian, except in emergency situations, when a minor is married or emancipated from parents, or with special needs of care such as a drug addiction, sexually transmitted disease or pregnancy

  • An emancipated minor has established independence from his/her parents through marriage, pregnancy, service in the armed forces or by court order

  • An emancipated minor is considered legally capable of signing an Informed Consent

  • Parental or guardian consent must be obtained before initiating treatment for a minor except in the following cases:

a) an emergency

b) in situations in which the consent of the minor is sufficient such as: treatment related to drug abuse/addiction, treatment for a sexually transmitted disease, HIV testing and AIDS treatment, birth control devices, pregnancy or psychiatric services, emancipated minor or if a court order or other legal authorization has been obtained

  • A client has the right to withdraw consent to a treatment or procedure at any time

  • The minimum age for an emancipated minor is 13 years old in California ---may vary depending on the state

  • A client who has been sedated or has been given any other drug that can affect his/her cognitive abilities should not be asked to sign a consent

  • When a nurse is involved in the informed consent process, the nurse is the witness only of the client's signature on the informed consent. Is the doctor's responsibility to inform the client and to request the client to sign the form if the client fully understood the procedure he/she is consenting to.

Definitions:

Minor= a client under legal age as defined by state statue (usually younger than 18)

Mentally or emotionally incompetent clients = unconscious, under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs, chronic dementia or other mental deficiency

Informed consent= the client's approval (or that of the client's legal representative) to have his/her body touched by a specific individual

Happy New Year to all of you, feliz3 :biggringi
