Just wondering if there were any nurses or nursing students here from Tennessee? Thanks, Sandy.
Hi all -
Yes, Opryland is GONE! Gaylord wasn't making enough $$$$$ so they bulldozed the whole thing and put up a mondo outlet mall. It's horrid, I hope they go entirely BROKE! They also moved the Grand Ole Opry back to the Ryman, because it was getting in the way of the Gaylord stuff at the new Opryhouse. WSM (If you're not into country music, you've never heard of it, but if you are, you've heard of it all over this country and several others) apparenly is seriously considering going to a sports-talk format.
Still (so far) no state income tax in TN, but the guv and everybody on capitol hill want it really bad.
Nashville isn't my favorite place to live, but it's certainly far from being the worst!!

MistiZ Chattanooga rocks! I miss it. I used to row with Lookout Rowing Club on the river, had season tickets to the symphony etc. Miss Best China in East Ridge.
Nashville isn't bad, tho I don't get out much being a student. The cost of living is higher here for sure.
Yes, we have no income tax but the state is broke! An income tax probably wouldn't fix it I know but the money's gotta come from somewhere. A complete restructuring would be better. I would also love to see the sales tax on food reduced.
Hey, congrats Studentnurse02! Welcome to the ... Ummm.... whatever we have here.... (G).
Bonnie - did you see that some indicators show that more money was coming in to TN than than the gov's forecast? This whole thing is just weird, if you ask me!
I was in Indiana when they added the state income tax and took the tax off of food. It went pretty smoothly, I thought.

Hi! Wow what a great post. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only Tennessean here! I live in Nashville and really like it. I moved from Oklahoma in 98 for my then job as an accountant. I just started an ADN program this week and am totally freaking out. I have no idea what to expect or what to study. I only have about 1,000 pages assigned for my first test on 2/1. Yikes!!! For those of you in Nashville, which hospital do you think is the best as far as nurse work conditions? I heard St Thomas and Baptist were good and to stay away from all the Tri-Star facilities. Do you agree?
Thanks!!
HI and welcome CPA2RN - another second-career nursey!! Are you really a CPA? Will you be able to deal with the cut in income? I thought I'd be okay, but as my kids got older and needed more expensive stuff, it's gotten harder and harder.
I was brought up in the entertainment industry, and "my" part of it was information systems. I was the computer lady among all the so-called stars, for a long time.
What nursing program are you in?
I wouldn't mind talking with you about hospitals, but I don't know if this is the place. I know people who have had good and bad experiences in all of them. Of course, there are some places where I've heard more good or more bad than others......
I hope the money thing isn't a big problem for you and that you have a great time in school, and really enjoy being a nurse. I've found that the bonds of the relationships and friendships I made in nursing school have been a LOT tighter than the ones I've made in other schools.

I would love to go directly for the RN schooling, but I have 3 children, and my finances aren't the greatest right now, so I need to go the quickest route available right now to start working. I know it seems like time wasted if you plan to go for RN later anyway, but I don't know if my finances and brain will hold out for more than a year! Have to test the waters first! I like where I live but there's not many job opportunities within small towns. I imagine after getting a license I'll end up in Nashville or Knoxville with the rest of you! Seems to be better paying jobs there.
