I've asked this question months ago, but since we have more visitors posting to the site, I am going to ask it again. Has anyone that works in Dialysis taken the CDN exam offered by the NNCC?? I am scheduled to take it in May, and just wondered if anyone had any tips on studying, how the test was, etc... Anyone who has taken the CNN probably could share info with me, since the CDN is a level under the CNN, format of questions are probably similar. I have looked at the pie graphs for each test and know what % of the test is from each subject area. Hope someone out there can help me. I am studying my brains out!!!
:D

I plan to take the CDN, but I will have to wait until next year because it's not available in my area. But the study questions I've seen are SIMPLE.....

Had intentions of doing so, but then heard a BSN was required to qualify. This was not the case several years ago, but heard it has since changed. Anyone know for sure?
Our DON took hers before getting her BSN. According to her it was not difficult at all.
Jnette, You can take the CDN (Certified Dialysis Nurse) if you have an A.D.N., and the CNN(Certified Nephrology Nurse) if you have a B.S.N. For the CDN, you need 1 yr dialysis experience and 15 contact hrs in Nephrology, the CNN.... 2 yrs in nephrology and 30 contact hours in Nephrology.
Hope this helps!!
babs_rn, I too am interested where you found sample questions for the CDN. The application had 4 questions with it, that's all the questions I have seen

I have CNN and took test abotu 7 yr ago-didn't pass the first time-missed by 1 point. That test was very hard. The area I didn't do well on was CAPD,so I went to work part time in CAPD. Also had a study book, which you can get from ANNA. They have a site on the web. ANNA,journal of nephrology nursing. Anyway I studied hard for a year and took test over and got an easy one that time,so I passed. Have kept it up over the years,it's not good for extra money or anything, but neither is a BSN and this cost less. Good Luck!

I would like to take the CDN someday. My company does not seem to care one way or the other. Even my director had not taken it.

I just took the CDN in October. It was not too hard if you have been in dialysis a while. If you dont know anything about PD look it up and know something about the values of changing med doses on Calcijex and Epo.Everyone gets a different test though but I hope this helps you some.
PS yes I passed
