Hi, Im Dawn and I just wanted to say that I was accepted into Montgomery County Community College this fall and have started my classes to get my Associates in Nursing. I just wanted to know if there were any other people on here in their 50's that are going to school for the first time for Nursing. Im excited about it..cant wait to get my degree, its gonna be a long haul but it will be worth it.

There are lots of threads here about being older and going back to school. I am 46 and will be nearly 47 by the time I graduate with a BSN, so don't fear, there are lots of us older and wiser ones around!! (Wiser is not intended to say that younger students are not wise, but an acknowledgement of years of life experience under our belt) Good luck!!!

I'm almost 48 and will be pushing 51 when I graduate. It is going to be a long haul but will be the best thing I've ever done for myself. It's my time in life now.

I am 49 and have 3 years to finish my 2 year degree in nursing .
This is my first semester back at a community college and I was so surprised how many older student there was. I would say that about 2/3 of the people in my classes are older; both men and women.
I felt very comfortable in class because they are in the same position as me:yeah:

I am going to be 50 in December and will start my prereqs in January 2010. I debated many months about making this kind of change this late in life, but after realizing that in 3 years I would be doing exactly what I am doing now (medical transcription for the last 15 years :crash_com) and making the same or less, I finally decided to give it a go. I am excited and looking very much forward to opening a new chapter in my life.
I say GO FOR IT! And good luck! :anpom:

Hi will be starting school (an accelerated LPN program.) I am 46. I plan to continue and get my RN after I graduate in Dec 2010. A negative person said to me "wow you will be 47 when you get your LPN, that's kinda old!" Can you believe that?? I said " well if I'm still alive I will be 47 anyway...so I might as well be 47 and a nurse". This will be my 3rd career and I can't wait. You're never too old to improve your life. I say you go for it!
Thank you all for such a showing..I thought that I would have been the only one or one of the few. I appriciate all of your thoughts and wishes. Now I know im not the only one.

I keep trying to talk my mom into going back to further her education, but she's convinced she's "too old" to do it, so I think it's great you are going for your goal!
Good luck!
LIke someone else somewhere else on this forum said, you can be a couple of years old or a couple of years older AND a nurse. It's never too late to learn, so encourage your mom to go for her dreams.
