How is life in Regina, Saskatchewan?

Thanks guys for your help!:w00t:

hi guys, i was planning to apply to SRNA but after reading this thread i think i changed my mind, i think i'll have to look for another province! I have been working for almost three yrs now in the Phil. and I just started my application in ontario as an rpn, after having been assessed by CNO for 4 months they offered me to do a bridging program so I decided to transfer my application to RPN thinking that I have better chances getting the eligibility because Ontario has a high standard for IENs applying as RN.

Lately I've been contemplating about applying in another province while waiting for Ontario's decision so as to maximize my IELTS eligibility. Do you guys think this is ok? Is it not against the rule of any college of nursing in canada to have 2 applications at the same time with different provinces? Thanks in advace for those who will reply!:)

Every province has "high standards for IENs" after the recruiting disaster of a few years back.

@ ap0plexy

My situation is somewhat similar to yours. I studied in the US and i then applied to Ontario for RPN because rumour had it that i wouldnt get RN status there. The rumours were correct! After waiting 14 weeks for them to assess my application, Ontario issued me RPN status and i will be writing the exam next month :) Needless to say, i wasnt entirely pleased with their decision as i studied hard to be an RN in the United States NOT an RPN!!!

I ended up appliying to Alberta and quickly after Saskatchewan because i heard that they are not as closed minded as Ontario. Alberta has asked that i do a SEC assessment next month and if i am weak in different areas of nursing they will offer me remedial eduacation which means i would have to go there and take classes i believe i will need to pay for it but the sec asessment is free. These classes will not be as near as long as what Ontario expects which would be a bridging program that can take up to three years to complete!!! I have accomodations in Alberta so i will only need to pay for my plane ticket :) thank God! After doing the remedial education (if Alberta feels i need it according to my SEC results) i will have to work as a graduate RN for 225 hours there and then i will have eligibility to upgrade to RN and write the CRNE :) WITHOUT ANY SILLY BRIDGING PROGRAM WHICH WOULD TAKE TWO TO THREE YEARS TO COMPLETE IN ONTARIO!!!! At least Alberta and Saskatchwan gives you an opportunity to prove to them that you are competent unlike ONTARIO (which is where i am born and raised!!!) The reason why i applied to Saskatchewan is because i heard that there may be a boom coming just as the one Alberta experienced a while ago. Im assuming there will be a great need for RN's therefore i am preparing now...im only assuming so dont take my word for it--i dont know anyone there and have never been there! Saskatchewan is STILL assessing files from last June of 2009!!!!! So it will be at least another 6 months before my application makes it into the hands of any of their assessors...

Hope i was helpful...it's a tedious process but i am doing it because i wont settle as an RPN in MY OWN PROVINCE when i worked soooo hard to achieve my RN LICENCE!!!:yeah:

@cosmeticgurl

wow thanks for the insight cosmeticgurl! But if I you were in my shoes right now would you apply in another province while waiting for CNO's decision on my rpn application?

@ ap0plexy

Youre welcome...im glad to be of help :) If i were in your shoes i would apply to Saskachewan also because you are in the Philipines. I know it will take a long time to get your papers assessed but at least in the end you are not required to work there to get your RN there...You will only need to do the SEC assessment and if you are weak in certain areas of nursing, then they will send you to do remedial education which i have no clue how long that will take. My best advice is to just keep studying...get those textbooks out and keep yourself like a fresh new grad out of nursing school :) Perhaps you'll score really high and you wont need ANY remedial education :)

ill weigh my options! thanks alot cosmeticgurl! Godbless to all of us and our applications!:)

@ap0plexy

Thank you for the lovely blessings :) Im glad i can be of help :) I will keep you posted (most likely in 6 months) on the status of my application in Saskachewan. Hopefully it will be assessed by then or even sooner. When you hear back from the CNO let me know. I will be writing the RPN exam next month so i will let you know how that goes..i should start studying...i dont have much time left lol take care and God bless you too :)

Right now healthregions are in the red and need to save money, no no hiring in foreign countries, plus it's not necessary anymore. The new grads now are struggling to find good jobs. Don't know where you got the info about a possible boom, but it's not here :)

Applying in different provinces is quite expensive, what's the point?

I heard that Saskatchewan will be experiencing a boom in a few months...

SRNA received my application documents on June last year. If it's true that they now assessing applicants from June 2009, then I'm hoping i'll have my checklist before this month ends.
