Thats sad.. I will try my luck in New Zealand then :)

Is it true that they are not hiring Iens anymore? Why not?

Specializes in SICU, Burn Unit, PACU, CCU.

We are about to be deployed in March 2 in Saskatchewan. Their are rumors that they will not hire IENs anymore. I guess they will just temporarily put it on hold.

If you have done any reading in the Canadian threads it's because the economy got bad. Several provinces froze all hires. Less than 50% of new grads in AB found employment. Provincial governments have deficits. Finally, not all the IENs lived up to their references and required intensive orientation which was out of proportion to the experience they had on their resumes.

hi :heartbeat.........anybody is getting eligibility from SRNA....please do update

not yet. it's been more than a year since I submitted my application. But up until now, haven't got any updates!

it is not fair SRNA is taking this much time. They should reveal the time period in the web site. We are running out of IELTS eligibility days because of this time consumption. Really distrussing

yeah you're right.. and i hate it.. it's been more than a year... and that made me gave up my plans in going to Canada. :-( but i'm still expecting.. just have a little hope though...

Hi Babyje....did u received check. if yes after what period. what they are saying in the checklist. What I feel now is SRNA is cheating IEN and making money. Need to update all the Nurses in this world.

Hi babyjr, I got my eligibility from SRNA after 11 months of waiting and it is worthwhile. SRNA is really strict in documentations and they need to verify every details as what I experienced from my previous months of waiting. Keep the faith burning babyjr!!! Goodluck to your application.

to bobbantom- I know what you feel and it is really upsetting for you. SRNA are not making money to any IEN it is just that there are too many applications are coming around the world. If you want to know your status you can call them directly and ask them. Just what I did. Goodluck to you.

Canadian nurses have had their yearly registration fees increased over the last few years. One of the reasons given was to help pay for the processing of overseas applications.

Maybe those already working here should protest and ask that overseas applications carry MORE of the cost of processing them.

I guess that the more IENs apply to those provinces still not requiring a BSN, the longer the waiting time will be.

Colleges need a lot of resources (assessors and so on) to evaluate the applications, that's a lot of $$$. I guess they're not really making money out of IENs, but they need to cover their expenses in the process. Unfortunately, many applicants are not given eligibility; it may seem like money wasted, but Colleges shouldn't carry all the blame for that.

Provinces like Ontario which have traditionally handled a lot of international applications may have a wider database of schools and study programs. They also collaborate with WES to evaluate some applications. That's also $$$.

IMHO, if we IENs want to work as nurses in Canada, we need to dance to the Colleges music...or at least move along with it :heartbeat
