Anyone a new grad working at FLorida Hospital or Orlando Health?

Published

If so, what department, what was your starting pay, how was/is the orientation period, and how do you like the job in itself? Thanks! I look foward to working there when I graduate in 2010:)

I recently was hired by FH Zephyrhills as a unit clerk. I am hoping to be admitted in August to a local CC's nursing class. So far, I really like it. People are very nice and I have met some employees who have been there quite a long time. Also, I hear from some of my nurse friends who work at other hospitals that FH's pay is very good. I even met an ICU RN in my orientation who was moving over from a Lakeland hospital.

Sorry I couldn't offer more. GL!

Oh I should have included pay - new RN's are making around 21-23/hour but I was told that if you decline benefits, it is around $35/hour, not including diffs. Considering you can get your own insurance for around $200/mo, I really like that deal!

Hello Molly!

My nickname was csantos here on Allnurses, and today I just finished my leadership clinicals, and starting practicum on the middle of the month.

I have done all my clinicals on EAST WP and SOUTH, and really like the FH System and cant wait to be park of the team!

Helpingothersinlife/csantos and Chris99mu,

I am so glad you are having such a positive experience at Florida Hospital! I certainly love it here, and I always hope others do too!!!

Hi Molly....

I am in my first semester of nursing school and I know I would love to move to the Orlando area when I finish. I am a little unfamiliar with the nursing vocabulary. What exactly is a graduate nurse? I am guessing that I will have about a years experience before I move there? Is it difficult to get hired?

Thanks,

Dawn

hi dawn,

congratulations on your first semester in nursing school! florida hospital considers a graduate nurse an rn with less than 1 year of experience. so, if you are planning on working a year before moving to florida, you would not be considered a graduate nurse and could apply to any nursing position at florida hospital you qualify for!

hope this helps! let me know if you have other questions.

Just to let you know the difference in pay is for a per diem nurse rate (no insurance, vacation, or benefits vs a full time or partime employee. And I believe it's $31.00 an hour. The problem with it is that it is not guaranteed hours and the per diem nurses are getting called off many shifts. They are the 1st ones called off and first ones floated. On my floor they called off a per diem nurse and had a float nurse come up from the float pool. I would eventually like to go per diem but not in this economy. And also not at this time at Florida Hospital. They are trying to save the buck as well.

any updates??? Anyone getting any interviews at Orlando Health? Can anyone tell me the new pay rate for GN's with AS. Does it matter if you are in school for your BSN...do they take that into account when they are offering a pay rate?

I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology (I was premed originally); Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology; and a law degree. Unfortunately, the salary for attorneys is horribly awful. I am looking for a career change and am looking into an RN. I live in Kissimmee and, so, I would be looking for a job in the central florida area. Any ideas on what the starting salary for someone like me would be...would have an RN....but also a BS, MA, and JD behind it....plenty of life/work experience ( I am 32) but no previous work experience specifically as a nurse???? I hear from some people that the starting salary should be somewhere around $25.00/hour. I don't need benefits or vacation pay...but do need consistent fulltime hours.

I just got hired at OH and the rate for BSN nurses is usually $21.65. I love the Florida Hospital team, I did a lot of clinical time there, but the Orlando Health charting system is WAAAY more user friendly. OH is also really on top of their game, the recruiters and interviewers had called me and set things up in NO time. Florida Hospital are dragging their feet a little IMO.

the starting rate at florida hospital for a graduate nurse is $22.08 with a bsn and $21.44 with an as. i know the next prospective gn program will start in july. typically the positions are posted three to four months in advance on the www.floridahospitalcareers.com website to allow enough time for candidates to apply and interview. hope that helps!!!

Oh boy, I hope to get a job before July. I have applied to many new graduate programs and I pray that my next month I am in a job. Please Lord help me.
