Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I'm interested in learning about what kinds of telecommuting nurse jobs there are - and most importantly how to find these postings. I've had 5 yrs of acute physical rehabilitation nursing and am looking for new opportunities.
If anyone telecommutes I'd appreciate hearing the type of work you do, and how you made this transition.
Thank you!!:)
I have telecommuted (worked from home totally) for nearly a year now. I review certain types of claims for an insurance company. I did have to work in the actual office first, but now they are letting new hires go home to work after six months. I have only had to go into the main office once for a big meeting since I started telecommuting. Most meetings now we just call in and listen and have a computer program to let us see the powerpoints if there any.
I work for a group of 60 physicians. I triage the calls from midnight to 8 AM. I love this job with all my heart, have been doing it for 2 years in Feb. You do lots of teaching, very rewarding, and you really connect with people and the patients appreciate you so much. Most of the calls are pediatrics but we also have a lot of adults too. I make $15/hour, no benefits, but there ARE benefits, such as not having to deal with evil politics, the XX chromosome crap at work, the management and rarely do you have to deal with grumpy MDs, and the biggest benefit of all is being here in my own home there are times that I can throw in a load of laundry, talk with my kids or husband, fix breakfast for them while teaching a mom how to treat croup, when to go to ER, what to watch for etc...
Its not a job for a new grad, you have to have a lot of experience and good critical thinking skills. Its very rewarding and the patients love and appreciate you. its nice having someone coherent and willing to spend the time with you at 2 AM! I think all docs should have triage nurses!!
Hi there!
Do you still work for the insurance company? I am looking for a telecommuting positions now in my Career. I have been a nurse for 10 years- ICU/Corporate education/Cardiac Cath Lab. I am looking for something I can do from home that will be fitting for my current lifestyle with two kids under 3.
Any advice helps!!

I think it varies greatly on where you live....
