I interviewed for new grad residency program Fri feb 27th 09. I was just wondering if anyone else, whom interviewed, has had any word on being chosen or not being chosen for hire?
LAhapanurse...
I talked to PICU director and she told me that she had everyone she needed and I spoke to the NICU unit director on monday and she said that she might only be hiring 2 people!!! She also said that she would know for sure by today but it looks like I didn't get that either . Where else are you looking at applying??
hi drea214...i went to the CHLA open house yesterday and i might apply there, but the pay is SOOOO low, its kinda ridiculous! i mean LA has a high cost of living, so you'd think their pay would be better, but its crap! i'll prob apply to cedars and uci. how about you? this job search thing is becoming soOoo discouraging!!
CHLAs base pay is only $23.47/hour (soOo low!!!) uci is uc irvine, it's also a part of the uc system like ucla, but it's in orange county. i'm from out of state too, currently going to school in baltimore, but originally from LA.
the thing that kinda sucks about cedars is that they require you to start on med surg for 6mo-1yr then transfer to a speciality unit, if there are open positions. i guess i could handle that, but it's not what i prefer to do...
I started at 23 as a new grad also....It's a pretty decent wages considering the state of the economy. I was able to pay all my bills and put some money aside into the saving account.
hi intra-aortic...i didn't mean to offend you or anyone by saying that 23 was low, but when surrounding hospitals are starting off at 32+ an hour, its a big difference. plus i have major school loans i have to start paying back and the cost of living in LA is super high, so 23 wouldn't get me very far. CHLA is a great hospital, with probably the best RN residency program in LA, and if money is no issue, then by all means go for it! but anyhow, just hope i didn't come across as offensive, because that was not my intention at all...

I was offered a PICU job (a week ago) that I am not taking, because I am working in emergency instead. The managers in both places are phenomenal. :) Good luck to all, and I hope everyone ends up working in their place of inspiration!
