I agree, once I was admitted, I didnt find it difficult to talk to someone, they actually called me once to let me know I was missing a couple of things and I got an email asking if I was going to finishing my challenge exams, and if i miss deadlines, they have successfully transferred my info into the following semester until I get all requirements met which all I have left to do is test out of 3 challenge exams, fax my cpr card and purchase malpractice insurance.

It seems as if there is a mix up of what TCN does and what ISU will or will not do. The last sentence shows that the subject of this post is actually The College Network.

No one at ISU will call you to see if you are going to finish your prerequisite ISU exams--that call would have come from TCN only.

Faxing your CPR card and to ISU is a requirement to apply to the ISU program and continue within it. However, you will not get any call from ISU about how you are doing with the challenge exams. At ISU it is understood you are an adult and have the knowledge about what is needed to matriculate through the program. They do not have the staff to call each potential student about how they are matriculating through the challenge exams to gain admitance into the program.

There is someone at ISU whose job will track you CPR card and malpractice insurance because they must be current if you are to apply to the program, be admitted into it, and continue in the program.

One last thing, you are not admitted into the program once you pass the 4 challenge exams. You will get an interim admittance at that time. After you pass the two first courses you will be admitted to the LPN to BSN DL nursing program at ISU. There is a big difference between challenginng the 4 exams and actually passing the first two classes.

I went back to the 2 year school I got my LPN diploma and they proctored me for $35 for one exam and told me they may be able to work out a deal on the last 3 so I dont have to pay $35 for each exam. I guess I surprised the proctor, I took my mental hlth exam in 35 minutes although I had 3 hours and I passed.

Temeika, the first exam, mental health, is the easiest exam. You passed it within the appropriate amount of time.

Hello, I am new to this forum but I was wondering if anybody could give me some insight on how to go about challenging the four exams for ISU! thanks in advance:yeah:

Enroll into isu and apply to nursing program. Just call for more information.

Phone: 812-237-2319

Fax: 812-237-4300

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about how long it takes to get all 4 challenge exams done? I am trying to get everything done to be able to apply for the nursing program by the november 1st date. Thanks!

To Ladyinscrubs,

I actually was contacted by Mary from admissions on more than 2 occasions and Joe about completing my application process including my challenge exams. I found it very encouraging that someone from the school, was in constant contact with me about my admission process and which exams and requirements I still needed to meet.

Very unusual. From what you describe, I wonder if Mary and Joe were from TCN not ISU?

I just checked my emails and their titles are TCN liason assistants but they actually do work at the university. And I did not go through the college network.

It may be that ISU has hired more employees to work with potential students. I am confused why the nursing dept at ISU would have "TCN liason assistants" who work at ISU. Interesting.

Again, as I have stated before, there is some kind of connection between ISU a state institution and the private publisher, TCN. IMO the quality of the ISU program is denigrated by their association with TCN. However, not having contact with TCN does not mean that ISU has not provied your information to TCN. ISU does not hestitate provide potential student info to TCN.

I see all these comments are from 2011. So I'm not sure if anyone will see this or not. I am considering doing the online LPN to BSN at ISU. But unfortunately I did sign up with TCN about 2 years ago. I haven't started doing them yet. I was a little scared not knowing if the online thing was legitimate or not. ISU is supposed to be the only online program that is acceptable by the state of Virginia because it has enough clinical hours, whereas other programs do not. I have about 8 classes I am going to do thru TCN. But after reading all the bad comments about TCN, it makes me wonder if I should do my prerequisites some other way and just forget TCN. I can't get the money back I paid (about $5000). Or if I should go ahead I do the prerequisites thru TCN because I have already paid for it. Also I have a question about the clinicals and preceptors. Does anyone live in central Virginia and has done the ISU online program? How hard was it for you to find preceptors. I think I will be ok finding preceptors because I work with an oncology clinic that is being bought out by the local group that owns the hospital and numerous other medical facilities in the area. Any feedback from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

ladyinscrubs, thanks for the info. kgeiger1 can you tell me what study materials you used to pass these exams?

I have also been looking for an online LPN to BSN program. I'm worried how clinicals work with online. Do you have to find a hospital near you or fly somewhere? Does anyone know which schools are mostrecommended? I've heard good things about Western Governers from past students, but they weren't nursing students.
